How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much different because I have access to money for instance I can afford food. Previously I had to beg from the neighbours for necessities like salt and soap. This was very shameful. I am happy because I can support my family single handedly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has transformed very many families through giving them cash transfers. There is nothing negative that I see committed by GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I bought a bull worth UGX 600000 and two pigs worth UGX 100000 and one big saucepan worth UGX 40000. I also bought a tarpaulin worth UGX 40000 and hired a piece of land worth UGX 200000. I bought clothes worth UGX 20000 and a dozen of plates worth UGX 20000. The remaining cash transfer will be spent on food and other family necessities.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Iam optimistic that this money will able me get comfortable accommodation by building iron-roofed house which has been in my dreams. This will solve the issue of termites that keep on destroying my current roof and it ends up leaking whether rains pours. My family members some times keep on suffering from pneumonia because of coldness.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest moments is always evening hours while at juba bar within the village. I relax with friends while taking alcohol "Ajono". It's we identify where to do casual work for money in the next day which has kept on providing money that I spend in my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of land. Iam facing a shortage of farm land because after returning home my parents alocated one acre to me. This is not supporting crop production and I end up getting very little produce each season which does not take care of my family's needs. Also is areason I can not afforded to educate my children at institutional levels and they drop out hence it's affecting their futures.
