How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The equipment that I bought for my farm is the best thing that I have ever done in my life. I currently run a business using the chaff cutter to make feeds for my neighbors at a fee. I make an extra income making silage after cutting fodder for them. My milk production also has gone up due to proper feeding. All feeds are well utilized as the animals are able to consume all the fodder as they are all cut to size. I sometimes sell feeds to other farmers. I am currently having a long queue of farmers who have south my services. This makes me a busy man unlike before when I used to have very little work to do. I love making income this way and I am so grateful to GiveDireclty.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDireclty used a very clear way of confirming beneficiaries by moving from home to home. They did not meet people to a meeting to distribute the aid. As a result, many people worked hard to ensure that they changed their lives since they knew GiveDireclty had visited them and saw their conditions. They utilized the money in the best ways possible because they thought that If the organization was to come back, they will be sad if they find the people in the same situation.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer on buying a chaff cutter. I needed this in order to make my dairy farming better. I also built a store where I keep the machine and to store livestock feeds. This farm improvement has made my dairy production highly profitable. All the feeds that I give to my cows are all utilized. Little wastage and proper feeding have resulted in higher milk production at a lower cost than before. I then used the rest of the money on foodstuffs for the household.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a chaff cutter machine to use in processing feeds for my cow. Before I used to struggle so much in doing these activities, It could take much of my time and there was a lot of waste. Currently, I save a lot of time on processing feeds, something I could not do before. I have devoted my extra time saved in doing horticultural farming which also earns me extra income. Milk productivity has increased so much compared to the previous months because my cows get enough feeds in time. There is an increment of milk production and this has resulted in higher income after the sales of milk at the market. The money I get from this is saved to be used in paying school fees for my children and meeting other expenses.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt very happy. I remember it was very early in the morning when I heard my phone ring. On checking to see the content of the message, I could not believe what my eyes saw. Never before had I received such an amount of money in my life. From then on, we hardly had any sleep as we celebrated till morning. The fact that I was finally going to be able to buy a chaff cutter machine could not allow me to be calm. I just felt so happy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of my transfer to buy a chaff cutter machine and a generator to help in improving my dairy farming activities. I used the remaining amount to buy food for my children and chicken feeds to help in my poultry keeping project.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
As a dairy farmer, receiving this money means adding two fressian dairy cattle to my farm to increase the income i normally earn from selling milk. Poultry farming is also part of my plan. I have already fenced all around my compound with wire mesh hence as per now, all i need is to build a chicken coop, add more hens to the ones i have and buy chicken feeds as well for a start.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day entails feeding my livestock in the morning then spend the rest of my day watching movies and worship songs at the comfort zone of my home. Afternoons are therefore the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I used to work in a certain motorbike selling company in a nearby county but due to poor pay and sometimes no pay at all, i decided to come back home to practice subsistence farming. I was determined to earn a living out of farming but due to unpredictable and poor weather conditions, crop pests and diseases, my ambition to farming has ended up bearing no fruit due to poor harvests. The little i harvest is only left for family consumption. This is the biggest hardship i have faced
