My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk and this was so costly for me. I depend on small scale farming to earn income to support my family. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs. I had no extra money to saved so that I can buy a dairy cow. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on dairy farming. Currently I have a dairy cow and my family gets enough milk. I sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other household items and pay school fees for my children in various schools. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has enabled us to own assets. I have devoted much of my time on my dairy farming project because this is the best investment that I have always wished to own.

In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I did not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I spend part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me because I do not have a continuous source of income. I also spend part of the money to plough my farm and planted beans. It's ready for harvest next month. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has improved our living standard.

It was early in the morning and I was still sleeping when I heard the SMS alert on my phone. I decided to check it and I could not believe my eyes when I saw the contents of the message. It was a Mpesa notification saying that I had received my first transfer of 55000/= from GiveDirectly. I could not hide my joy and I immediately informed my whole family of the great news. The transfer from GiveDirectly has changed our lives for the better. We have always wanted to buy another cow but due to financial constraints, we were not able to do so before. Having bought another cow, we will be able to get more milk that we plan to sell and get money at the end of the month. This money will enable us to buy food, clothes for our children, and pay for our children’s school fees when they start attending school. Also with the land that we have tilled, we will be able to get food for our family. The food that we bought will sustain us for quite some time and hence we will not be having any worries about what we are going to eat. Thank you GiveDirectly for making this happen.

The transfer from GiveDirectly has helped me in various ways. I bought a cow with part of the transfer, I was also able to use some of it in completing building the kitchen house that I had not finished building. I also used the money in tilling the land and buying seeds and fertilizers for planting. With the remaining amount, I used it in buying food and clothes for ourselves and that for our children. I have always wanted to buy another cow and finish building the kitchen but due to lack of enough money, I have not been able to. All the money that we had before, we had used it in constructing the kitchen house though it was not enough to complete it. The small amounts of money that we have been getting has not been enough to save up and it has only helped us in catering to basic needs.
