My life is now different because I have my own semi-permanent house. I was married for over 20 yrs I have been sleeping under small huts which were temporary with some grass-thatched roofing. All through the roof has been leaking and was always giving me some sleepless nights. Secondly, I had to change the grass roofing yearly, this was costly according to my financial status. I am happy because my family and I are now sleeping under a permanent spacious iron-roofed house. I no longer worry about the heavy downpours or even the wild animals that were sometimes attacking us. If it were not for GiveDirectly coming to my village I don't think if I would have achieved all this.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done everything so well in my village. This is because the money was sent directly to my mobile phone and granted freedom in choosing to do what I have been wishing to own. I feel this is the best area that Givedirectly did to me. Compared to the previous organizations I was only given some foodstuffs which after two days I had finished everything. Buf with Giving directly, I have even build my own house which I never thought would happen anytime soon. The GiveDirectly officers were also kind-hearted and very social. I interacted with them freely and helped me whenever I could ask. Due to that, I didn't see any part thus organization failed us.

I spent part of my second transfer on buying some building materials such as building poles at KES 15000, and some nails at KES 5000. This was for the purpose of constructing a house that I had previously started using my first transfer. I then paid the Masson at KES 7500 as his labor fees. I then paid school fees for my children who are in secondary and primary school. I then bought two goats in KES 5000. This was what I had desired to keep in my compound but I could not afford it. The transfer has enabled me to purchase enough building materials for constructing my new house. I recently bought iron sheets and building poles. I have been living in an old hut which was not safe at all. It was even worse during the heavy rains because it would soak everything hence forcing us to seek shelter from our neighbors. Though my hope was to upgrade to a better house, I did not have adequate resources to accomplish this. When I received transfers from GiveDireclty, I was now able to build a decent iron-roofed house. To me, this is the biggest dream I have ever met. I can't believe I will never bear the shame of asking for shelter during winter. Give Directly has really saved me and I can't thank them enough.
