Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I got the transfer notification was the happiest I had ever been. In fact I still cannot contain the excitement. It meant to me that my longstanding dream of building my own house would come true. That is why I did not divert my attention to other things when I got the transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Receiving this transfer is still a thing worth celebration to me because my own built house project is in motion. I had been continually worried about whether I would be able to do this or not.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I can gladly say that I used my money wisely. The very first thing I spent my money on was maize as my family's staple. Secondly on my list was the procurement of cement and window frames as an additional step towards constructing my own house. I had initially procured iron sheets and burnt bricks but lacked the resources to get the two things I just mentioned as well as money to pay builders. Thirdly, my children did not having descent beddings to keep them warm so I bought them beddings. After all of this, I had change amounting to MWK70,000 which I have been using for other immediate needs including relish

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I had a vision to build a new house this year but I have not fulfilled it because I did not have enough money. I managed to make bricks and buy iron sheets but I have no money to hire builders. This project has given me hope that my dream will be fulfilled very soon. I will use the money to build a new house because the house am living in now fell on one side. I am also a commercial farmer and it has always been difficult to protect my plants from pests because I do not have the necessary equipments. The money will not only help me buy the right equipments but I will also start farming on a larger scale. Most importantly, I will use part of the money to buy food for my family not forgetting buying new spare parts of my bike.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Am happiest in the afternoon when I have done all farm work and am back home listening to the radio. Mostly, I love listening to soccer news.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is shortage of food. This problem affect all aspects of my life. My children fail to go school if they have not eaten. I fail to go to the farm when I have not eaten anything.
