How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Creating an additional source of income through livestock rearing has always been my desire. My life is different than it would have been if I never received these transfers in that I was able to buy a paged dairy cow and now it has already reproduced. I am happy since I threw one stone and hit two birds at the same time . Today, I am be able to sell milk on a daily basis and earn extra income. These extra income is handy on our day to day household acquisition as it caters for the pressing basic needs and school fees for my grandchildren. My gratitude goes to GiveDirectly and its donors as well.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by offering financial assistance directly as it's name symbolizes which had set a new foundation in my society. With GiveDirectly, transparency was demonstrated because it didn't partner with intermediaries whom I feel they would have encouraged corruption. In addition giving a standard amount of money to beneficiaries brought about equality. I do not see where GiveDirectly did wrong at their work.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my second transfer to buy a dairy cow 35,000 KES . This dairy cow has already reproduce which means the number of my livestock has added and the milk from the dairy it is very useful since I sell to my villagers as a source of income. The remaining amount I spent on completing the construction of my daughters to sleep in with their children who came back after having problems in their marriages.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have a dairy cow and I no longer buy milk, I'm able to save some money to meet other household needs for my family and also school fees for children.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow and start save the money that I could have used to buy milk to meet other basic needs for the family, I also knew that I would be able to buy enough food for the family.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spend my first transfer on a dairy cow, becuase I used to buy milk and it was costly for me, I also bought enough food, clothes, sky blast for storing, paid debts, and the remaining amount I paid school fees for my grandchild in school.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a retired teacher and at my age, I cannot engage in casual labor nor heavy duties around the village. Receiving this money therefore means I will indulge in dairy farming -a venture I have wanted to pursue in a long time. I envisage to supply the village and the nearest shopping center with the produce. My objective is to sustain my children and grand children's needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening after fulfilling my day's responsibilities. This is also the time I have a healthy discourse with my family at the supper table.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
After retirement from teaching in 2007 I received a good amount of retirement send off package. I entrusted some of my children with money, whom I thought will exercise due diligence and invest in good businesses so as to reimburse me at a later time. One of them squandered the money thus sending me to depression. I developed blood pressure which has been a challenge since. This is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life.
