How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to establish my own business. When I got my first transfer, I bought cement to improve my house. I have been selling for my friend for a long period of time. When I got my second transfer, I bought gasoline to sell. This will help me gain independent and raise my own money to sustain my family. I really appreciate GiveDirecrly for my transfer.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly work is exceptional. This is the only NGO I have seen that gives unconditional cash transfer. The workers are not corrupt. They do thier work straight. I don't think GiveDirectly needs to improve on anything.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer on starting my own business. I have been selling for my friend who was paying me 3000LRD monthly. With this transfer, I have bought gasoline that am selling. I am the only person who sells gasoline in my community. I am generating my own money now. GiveDirectly has made me to be a self employed person. GiveDirectly is changing my life gradually.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was very excited. I was not in the town when other community dwellers received their transfer. When I got information, I checked my phone, and I saw my transfer. I was very happy. I have been selling for my friend for many years. He pays me 3000 LRD per month, but it is not sufficient for my family up keep and other development. I build my house since 2017, but I haven't been able to complete it and make it conducive for my family. I'm going to use my transfer to improve my house and start my own business. I will no longer be selling for my friend. With this transfer, I will be independent and a self employe person. I really appreciate GiveDirectly for this financial empowerment.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that, I'm happy everyday, because I will soon start my own business. My stress of looking for money to sustain my family has reduced. Instead of selling for my friend who will pay me 3000 LRD per month, I have decided to start my own business with portion of my transfer. My house will soon be a conducive place for my family. I have struggled looking for money to complete my building project since 2017, but with my transfer, I will soon complete it. Many thanks to GiveDirectly for my transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have planned to use my first transfer on starting a new business and improving my house. I have been selling for my friend and he pays me 3000 per month that which is insufficient for my family up keep. When I start my own business, I will be able to raise my own profit that will enable me sufficiently feed my family and provide their needs. I will also improve my house that I build in 2017, but I couldn't complete it because of financial constraints. My family will have a decent place to live and get good food. I appreciate GiveDirectly for this great help.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My plan is to finished the house. I used to lived clay Island Montserrado, and I alway admired upstairs building made of mud and sticks, so I started to build mine in my home town( Logan town)but since 2017, I'm unable to complete it. With this cash transfer, I will definitely do the remaining work to get it up to standard.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest day in my life is this Friday(October 15, 2021)and about this hour(11:44am) of the day we are talking. Since I was born, this is the first time to hear this great news and to see an NGO that is giving money to the poor, it's like a dream . From this interview, I get the faith that God will blessed me to get some of this money, to be delivered from poverty.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge I'm faced with presently is money. I do whole lots of hard work( Cutting down big tress inorder to do farming activities) which is very risky but there is no choice because I need to provide for my household, if there was money, my work was going to less stressful, because I will get more manpower to help me with the work.
