How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is so different for after now after purchasing the cows and goats which I never owned before. IIn the next few months I am assured that this livestock will reproduce and multiply aba high rate. I will be able to sell the milk from the cow and sell the offsprings of the goats and educate my children who are still young. I will no longer be struggling like I used to do previously.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, In my opinion, GiveDirectly did perfectly well in various ways. First, we were informed so well in various ways we could spend the transfer. We were given the chance to chose on our own how to spend the transfer and that the most awesome sector I enjoyed. This made some of us build some better houses, sending our children to school and any more. I don't see any sector GD filed us.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some livestock such as a dairy cow and goats, worthy of KES 20000. To add to that, I also started the business of selling some vegetables at my compound. This what is currently keeping me busy since I was jobless. I am so grateful because the little profit I ma earning I am now able to provide my family needs effectively. The remaining amount of money, I am using in buying some enough foodstuffs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a pair of oxen which I acquired using the transfer that I received from GiveDirectly. This has been my long-time dream but I could not afford it because I was jobless and old. Having the pair will help me with my farming activities. I am now planning to practice large scale farming since it will be easier to prepare the farm with the help of the bulls. Basically the plan to combined subsistence farming and for commercials farming a great idea. Farming is what I believe will make my life change since from the sale of the crops, I will be able to get money in return and meet my family needs with easy. This will finally upgrade my living standards
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7 am when my granddaughter broke the news that I had finally received any first transfer. I was overwhelmed with joy after getting such wonderful news that morning. I knew I will soon heal because I have been sick and I had no money to see the doctor.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as pieces of iron sheets, building poles, nails, and timber. This was purposefully for the construction of a new house for my son. He used to sleep in a grass-thatched house which was in critical condition. It could leak during rainy seasons but he had no option but to stay awake until the rain stops since my house was also small that could not accommodate all of us. The fact that I have already brought building materials makes me happy since I have only remained with a few things to purchase in order to start the work off. I also bought a pair of oxen at 26000 KES. It has been my long time desire to rear them but I could not afford to keep them. Having them in my compound is a dream come true. Additionally, I managed to seek for medical attention using my transfer without taking a loan from someone for the first time. I am so happy now because I am taking medication and recovering well. I am still using the remaining amount of money on buying some household items and foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Besides casual jobs, subsistence farming is also a source of livelihood in my family. However, the much I can produce is around 3 bags of maize which last for only 3 months. To scale up farming is my biggest dream because I want my family to be food secure. In regard to this, I will purchase a pair of oxen and an ox plough. This will not only help in farming but also provide income when I hire them to my neighbours.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I do not have a specific time when I am happy because I have learnt to appreciate my life. Despite my challenges, I always thank God that I live to see another day and that is enough to make me happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is my biggest hardship. This is as a result of not being able to produce enough from the farm. This means I have to buy from shops yet I do not have a stable job to earn income. My charcoal burning job earns me less than 2000 shillings a month. It is very common for us to go without food for almost 3 days.
