How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The only goal I have is to complete my house and move in with my family. Before GiveDirectly came in my town, I had wished to have a house that will have more rooms. However, that wish was far from achieving as farming is the only source of livelihood for my family. I am happy and greatful that GiveDirectly came and gave the money that has helped me to build the house that I have long wished to have.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly as an organization working in my community has not done anything wrong. As for what GiveDirectly does well, I can say that when the organization entered into this community, every house in this town was visited to determine eligible households. In this way, no household that deserves to be enrolled won't be left out except where the household chooses not to be enrolled into the program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first transfer I received my wife and I decided to use part of it to pay our children's school fees and the balance that left I did it to buy two bundles of zinc. As the balance transfers were coming in, we decided my wife and I to buy other building materials such as nails, planks, and additional two and a half bundles of zinc. I was able to pay the contractors who I hired to build my house from the last transfer. I also able to buy food for the house.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I live in a very old house. My initial plan was to change the entire roof (replace old thatch with new one) of my house because I didn't have enough money to build a new and bigger house. Therefore, when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, l bought 3 bundles of zinc with few bags of cement to build a new and bigger house. I feel so much relieved having had the privilege to start my building project through GiveDirectly financial assistance.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
From my own judgement, GD has been very objective in every aspect as regards their daily undertakings in making sure that poor people like us benefit from this project that has helped improve our livelihood. Furthermore, GiveDirectly treats everyone equally and they've been doing quite well with the entire program. I am very fortunate and grateful to have benefited from this grant.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I wanted to build a three(3) bedroom apartment for me and my family. So, when I received my transfer, I immediately purchased 3 bundles of zinc for $33,000LD. The remaining portion of my transfer was used to transport my zinc from Buchanan. I am so delighted about this opportunity provided me by GiveDirectly. Thus, with this transfer I'll be able to initiate and complete my new home.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was about 10:00pm while sitting at my house, I received an alert on my phone that I have received forty thousand three hundred seventy five dollars from GiveDirectly. I yelled with joy when I saw that amount of money coming to poor woman like me. Since I was born, I have not seen this amount of money. It was surprising to me to see what I was told will coming to me coming to me in full. GiveDirectly is truly there for the poor people. I can say that government does not care about us but GiveDirectly coming to my community I am going to now be living under zinc house for the first time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference this money has in my daily life since I receiving it from GiveDirectly I can proudly say that, I have money now through GiveDirectly to build my new house that the roof will be covered with zinc. I was able to buy mattress that I couldn't afford to buy. I have been sleeping on mat that I cover with thick blanket.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With my most recent transfer, I bought zinc and nails to roof the new house I am constructing. The house I am living in is in bad condition. When it rains heavily, the walls at times fall. We have to ask our neighbors the next day to help us rebuilt the falling walls. I thank GiveDirectly for coming into my community to help me get on the program. I am well going to use this money to build my new house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Building a house is one of my serious plan for life. I say this because to have a decent home is a good thing. The house you see me in today is not good and was pass over to me by my grand parents. But the house is very old and is also leaking. I am not happy living in such a house especially for now I am pregnant, it is nit eassy for me sleeping at night. Give Directly coming to my aid is a good thing to help my plan to succeed. I will now be leaving from old house to a very big and new one. That is a good achievement in life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
At the beginning of the year my first happy moment was the distribution of the rice and today another joy has come. Do you know what this will cause me and my family. Give Directly coming to give me free money no payment do think is a sad news, no it us a very good news in my house today.I waiting strongly for this transfer.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The reason why I have not build my house yet; is because of the challenges I am going through. I live on farming and the harvest is not enough for sale to generate enough cash to safe up for the building of a new house. Today when I get this money you will come and see a very big and new house standing here on my name.
