How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I used to strain in paying school fees for my children and providing for their daily bread as well. Being the family's breadwinner, it wasn't easy for me because I only depended on the causes jobs whereby I could be paid on commission. Therefore most of the time some of my children could stay home for weeks before they could resume back becaus of the huge fees balances. I am now having a huge relief in my life after acquiring the morticcle, life has been smooth. I am now in a position to pay school fees in advance to avoid distractions and I no longer strain in meeting my family needs. This is becasue the motorcycle business is doing well with good returns. Courtesy of GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in sending the transfers directly into our mobile phones without many channels. Also, the officers offered us helpful teachings in regards to how best we could utilize the money. By so doing, everyone used his money appropriately in my region. I do not see any part GiveDirectly failed us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For all those years it has been my dream to own several motorcycles for business but I could not afford them since they were very expensive. Therefore after receiving the second transfer I purchased one. Becasue I couldn't ride on my own, I decided to give it to my son since he has been jobless and so the motorcycle will provide a source of income for both of us. In addition, I cleared school fees arrears for my children who are still in primary school. Later on, with the remnant amount, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family that would at least take us to the next harvesting season.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in my farm attending to my crops when I heard my phone ringing, notifying me of a message. When I checked the contents, I realised I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt happy for the financial help.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The transfer has enabled me to buy two second hand motorcycles which are now a source of income to my family. I gave them to my sons who are offering taxi services at a fee. They were initially employed by neighbours but they were getting little income from the taxi services. This is because they had to share the daily proceeds with the owners. Having their own motorcycles makes it to be the biggest difference in my daily life since I am assured of getting an increased income to effectively cater for my family's basic needs. They no longer have to share the proceeds with anyone.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the whole of my first transfer on purchasing two second hand motorcycles for my sons. They were previously employed by a neighbour to provide taxi services at a fee. However, the income was not sufficient to fully cater for our basic needs since they had to share the proceeds with the owners. I am glad that through these motorcycles, they will be generating a good income since they will not be sharing the proceeds. The income will be helping me to effectively meet my family's basic needs with ease.
