How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have many goals that I would wish to achieve, though I believe that God's timing is the best, my major goal is for me to upgrade my level of education, I am hopeful that I will be able to accomplish this from the poultry project that I had initiated. I am grateful for the support that brought sunshine into our lives.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does a great job in supporting everyone equally with respect regardless of one's economic status in society. Though in my opinion, I feel the organization should consider supporting the elderly independently for those who are supported with their children because they can no longer support themselves due to old age. (treat the household as an independent household )
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
when I received my transfer, I wanted to start a project that would be sustainable and easy to manage, I lost my job due to the Covid19 pandemic, life was unbearable thus I had to return home, therefore upon receiving my second transfer I used KES 40,000 in buying 8 goats to start a goat rearing project, with this I am optimistic that I would be able to earn a living, I was unable to initiate the project before due to unreliable source of income, I am married and blessed with one son, hence I used the remaining part of the transfer in buying their foodstuffs and clothes. I am grateful for the support that impacted our lives positively.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I became so happy the moment I received my first transfer and I celebrated with lots of excitement as we sang praises to God. I was with other members of the family when I received the Mpesa message and they were also filled with joy upon hearing the good news. We knew that we the money, all our problems would be solved.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Hunger is the worst nightmare that one should experience. I lost my job last year after the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and this made me depend on any available casual jobs. My family at times were forced to go to bed on an empty stomach if I did not get any work to do. With the transfer, I was able to purchase one sack of maize for our consumption, and because of this, we no longer sleep without taking anything and this has made my children and spouse happy and it gives me so much joy seeing this.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I lost my job after the outbreak of Covid-19 and because of this, I had not been able to have some investments since the money I usually earn from doing some casual jobs around the village was not even enough to meet our basic needs. When I received my transfer, we decided as a family to buy a dairy cow and three goats worth KES 24000 and KES 15000 respectively. We will be using the money from milk sales to pay school fees for my children. Since the goats increase in number faster as they have a short gestation period, I will be selling one when faced with a financial crisis. Using the remaining amount, I used KES 8000 to buy one sack of maize for our consumption, some decent clothes for my children and saved KES 7000 in our merry-go-round group.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We depend on our parents cow for milk. So when we get this transfer we would like to buy our own cow. A good dairy cost KES 30000. This cow will enable us to get milk for our family use and if in surplus we will sell so as to generate more income. Then we spend the other transfer on family needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is the time i get to enjoy breakfast with my family before i embark on my casual jobs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship is financial constraints. Where we live it is very rocky and cannot do much in farming si we rely on market to buy food. The little money I get from casual jobs goes to buying food hence no money is saved.
