What did you spend your third transfer on?
I spent my third transfer on Stocking my retail kiosk (30,000 KES) as well as construction of a kitchen (20,000 KES).
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different because I bought more stock for my retail kiosk, and from which profit I have managed to meet the needs of my family more easily (including food and children’s education). I also managed to construct a kitchen much sooner than I would have done had it not been for the transfers. Thank you.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD has changed our lives dramatically and we are very happy with GD. We are several steps ahead of where we were before GD began its operations in our village-there are fewer grass-thatched houses, the most vulnerable of us got assisted to improve their situations. However, GD Community Entry process was weak in that a lot of people do not attend Barazas and as such there was need to do additional awareness creation through all Women groups, Youth Groups, but particularly in Churches, which would have minimized non-participation rate since most people trust the Church.

Am planning to build an iron roofed house and then plant some maize then buy a cow.

What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
We are planning to buy sand, cement, timber, round poles, nails and iron roofing sheets which I will use to build an external kitchen. The remaining transfers will be used to start a small business and also buy food for our family.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
My proudest achievement is having worked as a casual worker for many years and after diligently saving my earnings for a while I was able to build my current house.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I face right now is lack of a sustainable source of income for myself, this means that I can hardly afford to provide basic needs for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening after finishing any tasks that I had planned for the day and I have been paid for any work that I did during the day. This often means that I can buy my family a nutritious meal and my family will appreciate my efforts.
