"Now that I am earning a better income from the new firewood business that I started using GD transfers, I want to save as much as possible so that I can eventually be able to buy a motorcycle. Before this can happen though, I need to clear the loan I took from a Sacco to add to what I had saved from GD transfers to be able to set up the business, after which I can focus on the motorcycle which I will use to deliver firewood to my customers and even hire out for transportation services at a fee."

I celebrated with my family as we gave thanks to God and to GiveDirectly for the money."

"My sister had been very sick for the past four months, so I had to quit my business to attend to her while she was admitted to the hospital. This made it so hard for me to cater for her medical bills because I had no source of income and I was forced to take a huge loan from a friend which I have been repaying using part of my monthly transfers. I also paid the rest of the money that I received to a group we had formed when we began receiving these transfers with the aim of pooling funds together since we intend to buy a plot which we can later develop or subdivide among ourselves."

"The small hut i live in with my family is too small and is leaking now that its on a rainy season, something that has brought shame to me since i lack a reason to give to my children whenever they ask me why this is happening. I therefore plan to build a three roomed iron roofed house to mark an end to all this. I will use part of the money that remains to buy my own cow since the one i have in my farm belongs to a relative who allowed me to keep for him and will soon be coming for it."

"Two years ago,I was diagnosed with heart disease which denies me a chance to engage in strenous activities which could have earned me more income. I work as an househelp in my neighbour's house, a job that fits me healthwise but at the end of the month, the money i earn (ksh 2000) is barely enough to provide for my family. My husband on the other hand is athritic and is too old to work which means i am the sole breadwinner of the family. This is the biggest hardship i am facing"
