"We do farming as a source of livelihood. We plant a number of crops which includes tomatoes, maize, beans and tomatoes. This crops normally attract poor prices which end up giving us losses. Tomatoes are highly perishable and if there is no ready market you end up counting losses. Recently, I had ready tomatoes from 0.5 acre piece of land, and coming out empty handed was something so painful to take."

"My granddaughter has been sick since she was 9 months old, and she has been operated on 7times. This has drained us financially as we were forced to sell almost all the assets in order to raise her medical bill. Even as we talk she is still undergoing numerous check ups which is still draining us even more."

"The only source of income that I have been depending on is the selling of coconut brew, a job that requires me to spend most of my time at my vending kiosk especially evening hours in order to get my customers. This job earns me very little mostly $5 per day and yet I am expected to share it with my core worker which leaves me with nothing to save. In some cases, I am forced to get help for food from my relatives something that has lowered my dignity, and therefore, the lack of a reliable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced."

"Lack of enough finances is my biggest hardship. This is due to the fact that I am a housewife and I depend solely on my husband. His job as a driver doesn't earn him much especially during this pandemic. This situation has made it difficult to provide basic needs for the family especially enough food."

"I have been having the desire of owning a spacious house for my family of 6. Additionally, I had some projects which I started but came to an abrupt halt due to financial crisis. When I receive the transfer I intend to use 20,000 shillings to expand our house to three rooms. Also, I will use 20,000 shillings to boost my poultry commercial project by repairing the structure and adding more chicken. The remaining amount will be used to pay my children's school fees, buying food and clothing."

"Supporting my children's education has been the bigggest hardship I face. My two daughters ended up getting married at a tender age against my wish, since I could not afford to pay their school fees past primary school. I am currently struggling to educate my other six children who are still in primary school. I depend on farming to earn a living but farming has become unreliable in this region due to poor weather patterns."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of enough income to satisfy my family's needs. I depend on casual jobs to get money. The jobs are physical and rare to find. I have a problem with my stomach which a doctor recommended that I should not do energy draining jobs. This has really affected my income. I now stay at home most of the times doing less physical jobs."

"Failure to fulfil my dream of completing the construction of my house due to the financial constraint has been my biggest hardship. My house is very small and is about to collapse this has lowered myself esteem as I am constantly mocked by neighbors due to the bad status of my house. I always pray to God that we do not experience strong winds that could blow off the roof."
