"Receiving this money will be a big relief to me and my wife. What has really been stressing us is the fact that we are unable to raise school fees for our children. We have two children in a neighbouring day secondary school. We are supposed to pay 5000 shillings for each of them per term, making it 10000 shillings for both. This is not easy considering that we do not have any income at the moment. We have been selling assets to financial their education but now we have exhausted everything."

"My ambition is to educate my children and I have been working extra hard to achieve this. This has pushed me to take loans from a sacco. My plan therefore is to set up a poultry project alongside planting vegetables. This will help me to generate more income to raise their school fees. I will also use part of this transfer to clear part of this semester's fees."

"Lack of financial stability has been the biggest hardship we have faced in life. My husband used to work in a certain School in a different town on contract basis lasting for only 3 months. His work was to look after the livestock of the School earning a meagre salary of Kenya Shillings 12,000 which is hardly enough to cater for the entire family. Owing to that, we have been unable to meet other household essential commodities such as clothing, among others. In case we are lucky to get this transfer, it will bring a sigh of financial relief in our family."

"As a farmer, I just live with hope that the rains will come and come at the right time. For many years we have been getting little or no harvest due to lack of rains. My spouse had to leave us to look for employment because he could no longer keep up with the lack of income in this area. He comes home once in three months. Having him away for that long leaves us lonely but we have no option since he has to look for money. He works as a casual in coconut farms in another region."

"Depending on crop farming has let me down for long. This is because the climatic conditions in this region are not favourable. We experience prolonged drought whereas it is hard to get an alternative source of income. This forces me to look for casual jobs away from home. The casual jobs are not predictable and therefore I find myself at home most of the times. This has made me struggle a lot in providing for my children."

"Receiving this money will help me increase my livestock by adding two dairy cows. This will cost me 500 USD. When they increase in number, I will be able to sell some and get money. My house is small given that I live with three children and eight grand children. I have a plan of building a separate house for the elder boys because they cannot live in one house. This will cost around 400 USD."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to take good care of myself for the remaining part of my years. At my age, I no longer have the energy I used to have back in the days. I intend to invest on light work like small scale poultry farming for 250USD so that I get proceeds from the sale of their products to keep me active. Additionally, I will construct a house and furnish it with good household stuff for comfortability. I will also buy one dairy cattle for 200USD to supplement me with milk and finally ensure I eat healthy."

"Receiving this money will mean that I will use 250USD to buy a dairy cattle to supplement my family with milk products. I also intend to use 300USD to construct a spacious house so that we can have enough space to cook, sleep and sit. My self employment journey will kick start by using the remainder of the transfer to buy sheep and goats which I will keep them and as they multiply, sell them and use the proceeds to sustain my family."

"My old age is accompanied by poor health that has made me less productive in terms of work. I have constant pains in my pelvis that make it very hard to bend. Recently, my leg suffered from mysterious inflammation that immobilized me for 3 weeks. I therefore depend mostly on my children who are casual labourers. Life is very unbearable since they do not earn enough to sustain us. In this regard, I consider financial instability is my biggest hardship."

"I will use this money to build a three roomed iron roofed house at an approximate cost of $300. This will enable me to harvest rain water during rainy seasons hence a relief in having to walk 4 kilometers to the nearby water pan in search of water for domestic use. I will therefore have buy a 3000 litres water tank @ $180. I live in my one roomed hut with my 19 year old son. According to our culture, a grown up boy should not live under one roof with his parents but we got no option on this since I only engage in a small business of buying eggs and selling them at a profit and I use all the money I earn to buy food only, the reason why I have never afforded to build him his own house. I will also spend $300 to buy a dairy cow whose income from selling milk will supplement my daily income from my business."
