"I work as a motorcycle taxi rider commonly dubbed as "bodaboda" in our area and this job earns me very little such that, it can not fully sustain my family's basic needs. My wife's work of selling second-hand clothes is also not reliable since the clothes she is selling is out of fashion and they can not attract customers. This has made our life so difficult since our combined income is still low and I have always felt that, the lack f a reliable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is inadequacy of finance. I am currently doing grocery business in the nearby centre where I get a profit of Kenya shillings 200 a day which is not enough to cater for my daughter and I and/or even save the rest. Dairy farming tend to do well in our region and my plan is practice it in the near future through the grants that I may get from Give Directly."

"Imagine a 62 year old woman engaging in casual jobs such as fetching firewood for sale, tilling people's farms as well as going 10 trips daily to the river 2.5 kilometres away, to fetch water that I supply to a school nearby in order to earn some income amounting to $200 daily! Thats the story of my life. I do all these jobs to build up savings that has seen me educating my four children to the university level. My health is deteriorating daily and since I no longer have much strength to do these jobs, I have ended up selling five cattle and 15 goats that my late husband lleft me with, since I belief education is the greatest support I can offer my children. The only option I was left with is selling 2 acres of land next year to clear school fees for my son in campus but Give Directly has come in handy to support me."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is the continued inadequacy of food in our household. The varied types of casual work that we normally do at our vicinity could fetch relatively low and irregular income. Besides, we could not do crop farming due to the unfavorable climatic conditions in our area. Hence, we frequently go to bed hungry."

"I am planning to spend the transfer on paying for my children's school fees. They are in their final year of study. Their resumption to school was so abrupt owing to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. I would not have managed to raise their fees in such a short period of time. In addition to this, I am also planning to pay for a piece of land that I had acquired for farming."
