"Receiving this money will mean so much to me. As a parent,my number one desire has always been to give my children the best education that I can. At the moment, I have a daughter who is in her 4th year of education at Kabarak University. Her studies has really drained our family financially. Because I am a widow, I have been catering for her financial needs single handedly. Every year I pay a total of 60000 shillings towards her school fees and for now I have not saved even a single cent to cater for her final year. The only thing I have left is to cross my fingers and hope that I will be successfully enrolled so that I actualize my dream of getting my last born daughter through her University education."

"The biggest hardship I have faced and still face has been providing for my family. I have a young child and that means she has to be provided a special diet to protect her from malnutrition. I spend a total of 600 shillings a month on buying milk for her. This is not easy considering that I depend on manual jobs to get this done. Foodstuffs are so expensive in this area because of persistent drought. That means we depend on food that is grown in other areas and then transported here. This is so expensive for some of us to afford."

"I have been ailing from High blood pressure and knee arthritis for the last 4 years, a condition that require alot of money to manage, in terms of eating nutritious foods such as milk, green vegetables and fruits. Medicines prescribed by my doctor are also costly yet I depend on my son who operates motorcycle taxi to fend for his family as well as mine. This is the most challenging phrase of my life."

"I have been hired by one of my neighbours to operate motorcycle taxi, transporting clients and goods to various destinations. I usually split my daily earnings (of about $10-$8) with my boss. Receiving this money therefore will enable me to acquire a second hand motorcycle at a cost of $550 that I will be operating on my own and keep all my earnings myself."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is losing my husband about five years ago. We spent virtually every resource we had, including cattle and some piece of land, in trying to treat him in vain. As a result, I am currently struggling to make ends meet by doing some subsistence farming though I have less energy due to my advanced age."

The only source of livelihood is charcoal vending a job that earns me 1.5 dollars a day which I spend it on food for my family."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is rearing livestock in a semi-arid area. Since I do not have the capability to irrigate my farms due to financial constraints, I usually realize little products from my livestock. This is because my livestock are not well fed due to inadequacy of feeds. Accordingly, I would acquire little income that could hardly sustain us without living any amounts for further developmental projects."
