"In the year 2016, I was kicked out of our home by my parents. I decided to go to Kericho to seek employment so as to get some income to raise my 2 children. I was employed as a house maid in Ainamoi, Kericho County. The house maid job became to hard for me and I decided to come back home where I borrowed a house from my uncle and this is where I called it temporary home."

"The transfer has helped us in a big way and it has thus created a big difference in our lives. We were able to build another kitchen that is bigger and roofed with iron sheets. With this kitchen, guests visiting our household like my mother will have somewhere to spend the night and we will no longer have to borrow a place for them to stay in. Our children too will have a nice place to sleep. Also, having added some furniture in our household, that is, a chair and two tables, the house looks much better. We can now hence sit comfortably and chat together with family and friends. The two bags of maize that we bought, will sustain us for quite a while and hence we will not have any worry about what we are going to eat as we wait for the ones on the farm to ripen."

"The transfer from GiveDirectly has helped me a lot. I used the transfer to buy a motorbike for my business. I used to do the motorbike business of moving people from one place to another but I had stopped for a while and gave the motorbike that I had at the time to someone else. The person has been using the motorbike in transporting his goods for selling from one place to another. When I gave out the motorbike, I decided to open a barbershop which I have been operating since then. When I was enrolled in the GiveDirectly program and I was told that I will receive the lump-sum transfer, I planned and decided that I will use it to buy a new motorbike. The reason why I decided to go back to the business is that there are a lot of customers in the business. The money from GiveDirectly was however not going to be enough for me to buy a brand new motorbike. I hence decided to sell the old motorbike that I had, to the person who has been using it. I added the money that I got from the sale to the one that I received from GiveDirectly and it hence became enough. I then left the barbershop business to someone else for him to run it."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some beddings which include, a bed and mattress. These were to replace the traditional beds that I was using as beddings for all those years. I later bought four goats as my well thoughtful assets that I can lean on. In addition, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family that would last three months."

"I am so grateful to God and this organkzation for being selected to be part of this program. I lost my husband a few years ago and since his death I've struggled to raise our children and grandchildren I'm also old and frail and don't have the same energy I used to and this money will help me improve our livelihoods and pay for school fees and maintain the home. We sleep on the floor and don't have enough beddings for everyone and receiving this money will greatly change our life. It will give us a luxury of opportunities we didn't have"

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I managed to buy a secondhand motorbike purpsly for business. I opted to buy it because my spouse is a qualified driver and he was employed by a firm d and paid on commission. The money was too little to cater to the family's daily needs. I was also depending on casual jobs which still could not sustain the needs. We are now glad as a family because the money that my spouse will be getting from the business will all be ours. This is promising that our lives will never be the same again. I am so grateful because I now have two sources of income from casual jobs and from the business. I am positive that I will no longer strain in meeting the family's needs like before."
