"My ambition is be able to get some skills in masonry and make a living out of it. But at the moment it is not easy because I had an accident while at work in Mombasa that rendered me not to do heavy duty work.My former employer was to cater for my medical bill since the accident brought about many health complications but he has been very reluctant. I was forced to go back to my village and started doing casual jobs and subsistence farming. The Give Directly transfer will aid me in purchasing some livestock and poultry. This will come in handy especially when emergency arises I can sell a cow or chicken and carter for those needs."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well because they were so loyal and honest in everything they did to us at large. Before receiving the money, I was well advised on how perfect I can use the money according to what I have been longing to purchase. They also considered the elderly recipients the mentally disturbed people by also enrolling them. This showed there was no discrimination at all."

"My life is totally different than how it would have been because I now sleep comfortably in a better bed. Back in the days, I used to sleep on the old mats which I had lots of discomforts and I always complain of back pains and regular body fatigues. This is gone now, I am sleeping like a baby and waking up even healthier. Also, the four dairy cows that I bought were purposely for my children's education. Since I am a single parent, I had nothing to depend on inters of assets, and my children would soon tradition to high school. I felt this would be the best investment for my children. Soon I will be selling milk in large quantity and I will save the money basically for their education."

"The money will meant owning a good house. I lost my house in March 2021 due to heavy rains and winds. Since then I have build what I thought could be a temporary shelter, little did I knew it will be my permanent house. I lost almost everything that I have worked for with the house and it is difficult now to rebuild it due to covid 19 pendamic as I solely depends on my two sons who are in South Africa, working but since the start of Covid 19, I was told they have be fired from their work place. Since then, life has never been easy. I can not afford to feed myself and the family. The money will go a long way, and I dream of sending my son's part of the transfer for them to buy bus tickets to come back home."

"My life is different than how t would have been because the financial help has empowered me and I am now proud of daily cows and a pair of oxen. I have been aspiring to at least one cow but this was so difficult because they were very expensive considering my income from the charcoal business, which I couldn't achieve. As a farmer, I feel there is great relief because I will no longer have to spend money on hiring other people's oxen instead I will be using my own. Also, I will be hiring them to my neighbors at a fee and generate an income that will help me in settling my household expenses. Also with the dairy cow, the bigger amount of the produced liter will be for commercial purposes. This will now be an additional income to me. Therefore I am positive I will no longer strain in meeting the family's needs."

"I work in my uncle's milling business. I usually receive a monthly salary in the region of 2,200-2,500 depending on the number of customers served. My monthly expense supercedes my salary and so no surplus amount remains for me to do other stuff. As a result, I live in one grass thatched house that acts as bedroom and kitchen. I am not in a position to host visitors that have an intention to spend the night at my place as the room is too small. Receiving this money will mean that I will be able to construct a nice house for 45,000 shillings. For the remaining amount, I intend to use 28,000 shillings to buy a dairy cattle and the rest improve nutrition."
