"My biggest hardship is when the farm I had leased to do farming was adversely affected by drought and maize diseases. I had planted maize for commercial services three years ago. Unfortunately, I made no profits since what we harvested from the farm was just enough to break-even for the project. I lost interest in farming, something that had been my passion for some time."

"Receiving this money means starting a business ( shop). This has been my longing but due to financial constraints, this dream has never come to pass. I am planning to spend 30,000 Kenya shillings to start it. This is going to generate income to my family of 9 members. In a day I can make at least 500 shillings as profits. This is enough to cater for all the basic needs such as food because we always spend 200 shillings only. Also I will save the extra amount for my children's future education. Other than that,I will spend the remaining amount to build a spacious house which can accommodate all of us and leave comfortable."

"My life is different than it would have been in that I was able to construct a spacious house for the family. This has restored the happiness and privacy I because I used to sleep in the same house with my kids, at the moment they reside in a different house. In addition, I was able to purchase proper beddings to replace the one that had been worn out. Lastly, I own a pair of oxen which will improve my farming but replacing the old way of digging using my hands. I will be able to cultivate 2 acre more which will result into more harvest hence enough food for the family. Furthermore, I will hire them out to my neighbours to earn a living for the family."

"In your opinion, GiveDirectly did well for giving out cash transfer instead of property. The cash has transformed our life for the better since we had the opportunity to make decisions on how to utilize them. I don't see anything that it does not do well."

"My life is different than it would have been if had never received the transfer in that I now live a comfortable life, I was able to purchase proper beddings for the family .Back in the days I use to sleep in the same bed with my 3 children but now they have a separate bed and mattress.
