"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better house. I used to live in a small grass thatched house which could not host all the family comfortably. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption, I didn't had an extra income to buy the building material and started building. The small amount of money that I could get was for the school fees for my children in various schools. When I received the second transfer I found it Worth to invest on building a better house. Currently I no longer fear welcoming visitors to my house because I have a spacious house. I am so much grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I purchased a posho mill machine. My neighbors were walking for quite a long distance to find a posho mill. I found this as a business opportunity, I crap it by purchasing the machine. I had always wished to start this project but I didn't had money to do it. I had the building already the capital was the big challenge. I do depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption, I didn't had an extra income. Currently I run the business myself, I earn a daily profits of 300ksh per day. I have never own any business before nor even make a profit of such amount. My family nowadays never lack food to eat or clothes to wear, I also save some amount to add stock to my business. "I spent part of my second transfer on buying building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, timber, and threads. This was for the construction of new houses becasue I wanted to relocate to my farm in the same village. Besides, the previous house was in .poor condition and very small. To add to that, I cleared school fees for my children who are in primary schools. In addition, I bought an ox plough at KES 8000. Lastly, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family that would at least take us to three weeks."
