"The biggest hardship I have faced were lack of enough capital and poverty. I started doing fish business before I even got married, but because my capital was not enough, I have not reached at the point we're I always dreamt for. The second hardship is poverty. My parents are very poor and can not manage to buy a piece of soap. We always depend on maize grain as soap or sometimes we could keep our dity clothes for months just facing for rain season for us to do piece work to buy soap."

"I am an orphan and my siblings and I depend on our guardian for most of the things ranging from food to our school fees. After our parents died, my father's brother gave us one of his house to live in and instructed me to build a house for my siblings when I complete my secondary school studies. The transfers enabled me to build a house that we're almost moving into it and to pay for my school fees and that of my siblings. Due to this, we have been able to concentrate on our studies this term as we have never been sent back home like previously when I was constantly in and out of the school. Having been able to achieve this has made my life different"

"My husband is a casual laborer yet what he earns is very little to sustain our family most of the time, I am a housewife, and a mother of 3 children of which 2 are schooling, When we received our second transfer We bought a second-hand motorcycle worth KES 35,000 for my husband to start a motorcycle taxi business, and with this, he could earn an income. I then used KES 10,000 to buy a dairy cow so that my children can have milk daily which is essential for their health."

"I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on purchasing public address systems. This was always my dream. Before this I was employed by a friend who had his public address system. I used to work for him daily. The payment was so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of my family. I had no extra money to saved so that I can purchase mine. I used to struggle so much, wake up very early in the morning and back home late. This was so tiresome and I had no time to bond with my family. When I received the second transfer I purchased all the public address system. Currently I have my system and I run this business myself. I rent out to people who has functions ata cost of KES 2,500 .I am able to generate income to meet other basic household needs including paying school fees for my children. I have also started savings which was not possible before. I am so happy because this was my dream. My plans now is to buy another system so that I can employ someone to run it for me."
