"Before receiving this transfer, my family lived in a small grass thatched house. It wasn't big enough to accommodate my husband, six children and myself. There was no sense of privacy and it was a sad situation. We, however, had no other choice because we did not have enough money to build a better house. My husband is a casual labourer and most of the money he makes goes towards buying food for the family. This, however, is no longer the situation. Our new house is spacious and accommodates all of us. I have also paid for my children's school fees, and no longer worry about whether they'll be sent home from school because of lack of fees. Our lives have drastically changed. Thanks GD!"

"Since receiving this transfer, I no longer have constant stress and worries about how I will be able to provide the basic needs for my child, especially food, shelter and education. I am a widow and single mother of one. I wasn't lucky enough to go get college and get a good job, so I have had to depend on casual jobs. These are rare to find, and they pay so little. My biggest fear has been that I do not have enough money to educate my child. With this transfer however, I plan on starting my business as an MPESA agent. I will save some of my earnings to ensure that I have enough money to pay for my child's school fees. I can now breathe easy."

"As a man, it's important for me to honour my in-laws, by paying dowry. I used KES 10,000 of the transfer to do this. I then acquired five goats worth KES 22,500. My family now has a constant supply of milk for use at home and we plan on selling a few of them whenever we need money. The remaining amount of KES 20,650 was spent on building my house. We finally have a decent place to call home, and this makes me happy."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying fifteen pieces of iron sheets at KES 19000, nails, and timber at KES 2000. This was for the renovation of my house since it had an old roof that could leak terribly during the rainy seasons. I also bought two mattresses at KES 6400 which were to replace the old mats which were using as beddings for a couple of years. we could always of back pains and fatigues and I am glad this is now history. In addition to that, I am planning to buy goats which will serve as the assets that I can lean on in case of any financial crisis. I then cleared school fees of KES 5000 for my six children who are in primary schools. They are currently studying peacefully with minimal disturbances. With the remaining amount of money, I am using it to buy enough food for my family."

"The biggest hardship that I ha e faced is hunger. My family did not harvest enough food that will take us for the entire year and this has made our life difficult. We so much depends much on government subsidized fertilizer program. Last year, we did not manage to be part of the program. This made us not to apply enough fertilizer to our crops resulting to low harvest."

"The money will help me to buy clothes and beddings. I lost my husband in 1999, who left me with only one child, a daughter. Ever since he passed away, I have never thought of remarrying because I wanted to give my daughter all the necessary materials that she might need in life. Later my daughter got married and she gave birth to a son. After two years she was found with cancer which claimed her life in 2006. I was left with my grandson whom I have rised single handed and now he is married with children. Before my husband passed away, we had everything that we wanted and he build a house with iron sheets. But things changed as his relatives came and took over all his businesses. In total they took away almost everything costing about K500000.00 ($479). Some of the properties, I sold them as I was seeking medical help for my daughter. I sale everything including my bedings which made me left with only one blanket, 4 dresses and 2 Zitenje. Since I have nothing that generates money now, I most of the times slept on an empty stomach. With my age, I can not work, it's my grandson who helps me everything. Since we are only two in the family, I have been asked to be at the village to look after the family land whilst my grandson lives along lake banks, (he is a fisherman) with his family. Furthermore, I can not stay with my in-law as people thinks I am switch and I kill my great grand children. Therefore, the money will help me to buy clothes, beddings and shoes. I wish to buy food, not maize but something different like rice and chicken as it has been long since I once eat that kind of food."
