"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to purchase a dairy cow which is an addition to the one I had. When it reproduces, I will be supplying milk to our nearest cooler plant and use the money that I will be paid at the end of every month to pay school fees for my children. Though I will have to walk for an hour daily taking milk to the cooler plant, I prefer it than selling them to my neighbors who will in turn pay on a daily basis as it would enable me plan well on how to spend them and avoid spending them on unnecessary things."

"My son sat for his National examinations this year and he was preparing to join a tertiary institution that he had been called to after performing exceptionally. One of the things that were needed during admission was his secondary school certificate and we had not been given as we still owed the school some money. When I received my transfer, I spent KES 30500 to clear his fee arrears and paid for his first semester school fees which was KES 19100. I gave him the remaining KES 5000 to use in buying some necessities that were needed at school."

"I lost my husband in the year 2008, and also lost the only son I had in the year 2011. Such an experience act as the biggest hardship I have faced in life. This is because the burden of sustaining my family has become almost unbearable for me. I am a peasant farmer who encounters huge losses due to unfavorable climatic conditions in our area. In brief, I have been forced to sell all the livestock we had to educate and support my son's three children (and family). Also, I am supporting my daughter in educating and caring for her four children since she has no reliable source of livelihood. Overall, I still feel lonely and overburdened by the loss of my family members."
