"It was early in the morning as I was attending to my cows before moving out to my usual chores. I was thankful after confirming the receipt of the first transfer as all my hopes had been on the transfer to accomplish a lot in our household. My husband was out to the market already and had to call him. After breaking the news, he was so excited too. We thanked God for the great provision together as this was a confirmation that the plans we had will be kicking off sooner."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the construction of a large dam on my fiend enabling my livestock to access water at any time even when I am not around. This had been a challenge for quite some time as I have had circumstances when I would pay someone to take them to the river and back. For convenience, I only needed some finances to finally construct a water reservoir to collect rainwater and open access by the herd at any time of the day."

"I was at home that morning with my daughter when I received a message on my phone from GiveDirectly. Being unable to read and interpret the information in it, I had to pass the phone to my daughter and helper to read. I was shocked when she started shouting since I could not tell that she was celebrating something. I had to get closer, and after confirming what she had seen, she confirmed that it was the money we were promised from GiveDirectly. I thanked God when I just heard that and told my daughter to trace the paper that we had enlisted all we needed to do before we withdraw the money."

"Receiving this transfer was an exciting moment in our household. Our fingers had been crossed as we anticipated the support to fill the close gap to our target capital that we intended to use in our dream investment. I was alone then at home when I received notification and on checking it, I was gasping for a breathe as I was shocked for a moment. I had to read it more than once, confirmed the sender, and even went ahead to check my account's balance before informing my husband of the good news. After being so sure, I called him to break the news and was so happy too that he thanked God and GiveDirectly for the support."

"For a long time now, I had been dependent on both livestock and subsistence farming as the main source of income for my household. Poultry farming has so far been doing well as I had been able to settle school fees and other household bills through selling broilers and eggs. On receiving the first transfer, I saw a need of clearing the old stock and re-establishing the old structures to accommodate more. I spent a total of KES 31,200 on obtaining a chain link and strong poles to support the construction as I needed a strong and lasting chicken coop that will keep all predators at bay. I also obtained pains that I am currently using in renovating our roofs that were already rusty. I had to obtain two gallons at KES 4000 and since I know how to do all the painting, I am not incurring any labor cost. I also needed to top-dress my vegetable far and had to purchase 10 Kilograms of fertilizer at KES700 to boost the produce as the piece needed more nutrients after a long cultivation period. With the remaining KEs 11000, I paid school fees for my two kids currently in primary school to enable step study in peace without being sent home during the examination period."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the great pleasure of enjoying the availability of clean water right at my doorstep after obtaining a large water tank. After the onset of rain that is currently ongoing, the tank is currently half-full, and that has been serving me in all household chores right from the kitchen work, laundry, and also serving all the livestock needs. I am thankful that I am not spending all the time walking to and from the river anymore as the collected rainwater is just enough to serve all my household needs."

"It was around 9 AM when I was heading home from a shop when my phone started ringing continuously. That was a nitifucation of an incoing mesage. However, since I was a bit tired I decided to rush home. The phone rang again and I was a bit curious since I was not expecting to hear from anyone at that particular time. I decided to check its content. I was so happy after realizing that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I had to share the news with the other family members and we were all thankful for this blessing because we knew that finally, we would shelter in a better shelter."

"Making 60 KES a day from my mandazi business is not enough to cater to my needs and that of my children. I have gone through some days without food especially when my small income is drained by sickness of any of my children or paying school fees."

"My husband passed on two months ago. I have been relying on my son who does painting in town. In a month he sends 4000KES for basic needs. I have no one to rely on especially in educating my three young ones. One of them finished primary school and has not been able to get enrolled in secondary school due to financial issues. I have longed to start a business but in vain since I do not have the initial capital."
