"I am a farmer who is so passionate about dairy farming. I love it because it is not energy-draining as compared to crop farming where there is a lot of weeding and spraying. I currently have 2 cows that produces 7liters of milk each every day. I aspire to expand this by buying 1 more cow to increase milk production. Out of it, I will get additional 5litres which I will sell at a nearby market for KES 40 for every liter. Receiving this money would be a blessing to me as it will make me more financially reliant than before."

"The money will meant business capital and paying for my children's school fees. My husband is in South Africa were he is working. I live here with my three Children and together there are 5 in our family. I do not do any business and I am not employed. I depend much on my husband which he sends K15000 ($14) per month. The money is mostly used to buy food and other basic needs. I have a piece of land that I do subsistence farming and I harvest 5 bags of 50kgs. I use 75kgs of maize per month and the 5 bags is only enough to feed us for 3 months. The remaining months I buy from the money my husband sends every month. The cash transfer I want to use it to start business. I would like to be buying and selling fish. Then the other part of the transfer I would like to use it to pay for school fees of my children at a good private school."

"I spent part of the second transfer on building a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small house which could not host all the family members comfortably. Whenever we have visitors it was so stressful because we didn't had enough space, we were hosting them outside. I build a poultry house and bought Six hens for start. This is my source of income because I sell the eggs. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children."

I combined all this and I was in a position to buy a new motorcycle. I used it for taxi business, I am so happy because I have always wished to own a motorcycle but it was not possible. Currently I get a daily income of KES 400 per day. I am able to meet all the basic household items and save some money. GiveDirectly has changed my living standard, I have fulfilled my dreams."

"Growing up I had the desire to pursue my studies to university level. Unfortunately my parents could not afford taking me to college due to financial constraints. This made me enroll all my 3 children in boarding school because I want a bright future for them and I know education is the key. I plan on using all the transfer to pay for arrears of KES 25,000 and their year's school fees which is a total of KES 60,000. I struggle a lot to raise this amount at once and I depend on loans as the business that I do is unreliable in terms of income stream."

"For all those years I have been yearning to at least own a single living asset like goats but I could not afford it. They were very expensive and because I had some other household needs ie daily meals to cater for, it wasn't achievable. Therefore after receiving my first transfer, I had to fulfill my long-time dream, and I managed to buy three goats. I settled to keep goats becasue they reproduce very fast and their pasture is readily available. Therefore I am optimistic that very soon they will multiply very fast because currently, two have started reproducing. Also, I believe paying school fees for my children in the future who are still young will not be a struggle. Through them, I will also be able to cater to any emergency that may arise in the household in good time. I have been living a miserable life by always depending on my spouse who is a casual laborer earning KES 200 a day, which was not enough for my family. I am now happy because I believe I will achieve a lot through the goats courtesy of GiveDirectly. Therefore, this makes the biggest difference in my daily life."
