"I spent part of the second transfer on building a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small house which could not host all the family members comfortably. Whenever we have visitors it was so stressful because we didn't had enough space, we were hosting them outside. I build a poultry house and bought Six hens for start. This is my source of income because I sell the eggs. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children."

"I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly on purchasing a motorcycle. I had saved KES 40,000 from the first transfer and some savings that I had. I combined all this and I was in a position to buy a new motorcycle. I used it for taxi business, I am so happy because I have always wished to own a motorcycle but it was not possible. Currently I get a daily income of KES 400 per day. I am able to meet all the basic household items and save some money. GiveDirectly has changed my living standard, I have fulfilled my dreams."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have renovated my house. I was able to buy paints from the hardware and painted the walls and the ceiling to look better than before. I redesigned my varender to look better. I bought the grills and rebuild it. It's now looking so decent and free from dust. Finally I bought iron sheets planning to replace the old ones out. This has always been my dream. I had always wished to do renovation but I didn't had the money. I had children in school. Paying school fees was always my first priority. Currently my children have finished their studies and graduated. I am so happy because I am now able to do my own activities. I depend on small scale farming and dairy keeping project. I sell milk and farm produce to earn an income to support my daily activities. Currently my house look very decent and I am so grateful for the support from GiveDirectly."

"I raise poultry to earn a income and also buy some for sell. The biggest hardship I have faced is when I lost a total of 100 chicken to a disease and only 20 survived in December 2019, this was a loss of about 60,000. Since then, I got discouraged and have never gotten back to where I was in terms of the profits I get from it."

"I was preparing breakfast at around 10 in the morning when a message notification popped in. I was a bit curious and since I was busy I asked for hand in help from my spouse to confirm the content of the notification. Upon checking, he realized that it was the long-awaited Mpesa message from Segovia Technology. I had finally received my first transfer. I was very happy and I just wish you could see how we reacted. We later planned on how best we could not utilize the money appropriately together with all my family members."
