"I received the message bearing the good news of the first transfer early one morning when I was still doing my usual household cleaning before picking on the main chores of the day. The message changed the mood of the day as I wasn't expecting such a piece of great information in the morning. I was alone then since my husband had been out to work since the start of the month and my kids were also out to school. I had to call him, and all he could advise me was to work with the plan we already had as he was much aware of the program after highlighting and enlisting the priorities before he left home early that month."

"Financial constraints is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life. Being the sole provider in my family and having grandchildren to raise is not easy. Due to age, I started being sickly and was forced to close down my clothes business 4 years ago to stay home and farm because it is less tedious. This greatly reduced my daily earnings and it has been tasking to cater for school fees for my grandchildren in high school and university."

"GD is doing very well by making phones available to rural communities. I do understand that their main issue is to provide money through mobile money cash transfers, but an opportunity to get a phone is also an added advantage. I should also say that GD help many people in a village set-up than other NGOs."

"I am a housewife and my husband runs a butchery business in a nearby town earning an estimated wage of KES 400 a day. Since our recurrent expenditure is huge because I have school fees to cater to and other domestic expenses, that cash is hardly enough to accomplish our dream (of putting up a better house). I have three school-going children who are all in primary level and their school expenses amounts to approximately KES 10,000 a year. We have been unable to save enough cash and better our family's living standards. Therefore, financial inadequacy has been the biggest hardship we have faced in life."

"I was at home busy with the house chores when I heard my phone ringing, upon checking I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, words cannot express how happy I was, I thanked God for the wonderful gift that came my way that morning because I knew that with the cash at hand I would be able to build a house for my family,"

"The biggest difference in my life is that I have managed to accomplish so much that I never thought that I would have achieved in a short period, in that, I bought a dairy cow meaning that I would be able to save up on the costly. I am also happy that my children have a place that they can sit on while eating, I can comfortably invite my neighbours without worrying about where they would sit. I am so grateful for the support that I was given because it changed our living standards."

"We had started a goat rearing farming together with my husband, this was the only way we were assured that we would be able to earn a livelihood out of it, but the main challenged that we were facing was that our land was scarce, yet we did not have money to acquire it, we tried selling some of the animals but we could not raise the money. My life is different in that I was able to purchase a parcel of land with the transfer that I had received from GiveDirectly, I am so thankful for the support that lifted our lives and brought so much happiness."

"My leg for the past year has weighed me down. I cannot move around without a stick and it has slowed my movements. It is hard to go to the farm and work as I used to. The last time a visited a neighbor was a month ago and we are in the same compound, I may be old but people of my age still can move around without much difficulty."
