"The hardship is a lack of finances. Two years ago I took a loan of KES 100,000 to buy a motorbike so that my husband could do business with it. We had high expectations that the returns will enable us to cater to other needs as well as pay back the loan. However, the business went down and we are now struggling to pay back. The proceeds from the business is not enough , so we are forced to forego other needs like renovating the house in order to meet other needs like school fees."

"The biggest hardship is a lack of finances. I lost my wife 18 yrs ago. She left me with nine children, some of whom were very young. I took care of them putting them through school and catering to their basic needs like food and clothing. Being a peasant farmer, it was very hard as most of the time we went without food. I have never had a chance to increase my assets and putting food on my table is still a challenge. Some of my children dropped out of school hence cannot find any meaningful employment and the poverty cycle is repeated. This is sad for any parent."

"Losing my husband in the year 2017 was the beginning of my current problems. Having been married to someone from a different tribe, my brothers-in-law wanted me out of my matrimonial home so that they can have a bigger size of land after subdivision. Thank God that villagers intervened and their plan did not see the light of the day. Even though they did not succeed to evict me, I still feel I am not safe here."

"I am a single mother and I have children who are in school. What I get from the business is not enough for us to safe. I have a small house and my children are growing,we need a spacious house that can accommodate us. It is a shame in the society to sleep in one house, yet they are grown up and they also need a privacy."

"Job security has been my major challenge. Recently, I was working as a motorist, but I was relieved off the duty during the Corona Pandemic. Ever since then, I have never acquired a sustainable job to keep me moving. Being a family man and the breadwinner, it hurts me most seeing my children go without food, and a times they are sent out of school due to fee arrears."
