"The challenges that we are currently facing are not having enough food. I rely on cutting firewood and selling it at the Lakeshore but as of late we are at closing season and the Lakeshore will open in January. So finding piece works is hard and I can only make a little to cover for my family."

"I am very happy and excited to be included in this program. I have been failing to renovate my house and build a toilet for my house among other challenges I face. This program will now enable me to achieve these ambitions and am very thankful. I also believe this money will enable me to have adequate food too for this year and also add some money to my struggling doughnuts business. Most of the times I make around 5,000 kwacha per day and this is used carefully for about a week before I make others."

"I a very excited to be in this program by Give Directly. Since my husband died in 2014,things have been very tough for me. I am now looking after my child and extra two grandchildren whose parents are away and do not send any help. We usually struggle to find money for buying food and adequate daily necessities. Since the house am living in was built for my father by the Catholic church,I only aim to find food as am covered on the house part. Whenever am heavily in need, I ask for help from my relatives in another district as well as my child who does casual labour along the nearby lake and brings home either fish and some money. I believe the money will assist me in buying food as that's the main priority. I shall also make sure to buy doors for my house as the current ones are in bad shape. Since our harvest is usually low, I aim to buy extra fertilizer for my garden to improve harvest."

"One of the main challenge i am facing at the moment is lack of financial support from my children. I have grown up children who would now be taking care of me but none of them supports me. I stay without a proper meal most of the days as i only depend on porridge. I do not have any maize in my house and i have to do some casual labour to find money to buy maize flour."

"The main challenge that we are currently facing is hunger, we have no food. If my husband did not go for fishing that day, we spend it without food or with one meal. With the kids around it is very difficult for me to watch them crying with hunger not having anything to provide for them."

"Most noticeable we face challenges relating to lack of food, not only this but also clothes for our children. For your information, our children need food at school, they need exercise books and most importantly they need to wear clean clothes and take a bath each morning. We fail to achieve all these because we lack money."
