"I am meeting a lot of challenges but my biggest one is the fact that it is very difficult for me to take care of the house with the 25,000 Kwacha that he sends to last me the whole month. When he does not send any money I depend on my mother in-law but I lack even the smallest things like washing soap. I had a pop corn business but I stopped because I kept on using the money to take care of things at home."

"It was 6 am in the morning I was cleaning the compound and I had my phone vibrating. So I decided to finish up cleaning up the compound first. When I had finished I went straight to where my phone was and looked at it. I found out that I had received money from Give Directly. I can’t even explain the joy had within me. I was very happy. I immediately decided to slaughter a chicken to celebrate the occasion. Mind you it’s not a common thing for us to eat chicken unless it’s a special occasion or someone very special is visiting. I then informed my father’s brother who was at that time around and I could see how pleased he was."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a heifer. I always buy milk daily and this is so costly for me. I depend on casual jobs in the village and also small scale farming. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household basic needs. I had no extra money to buy a dairy cow. I also had no other source of income apart from the farming. My children goes without milk whenever I have no money. This is so demoralizing and stressful. I had always wished to own a dairy cow. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow. currently I have a heifer which a bought a KES 32,000. When it reproduce it the next few months I will get enough milk for the family and even sell the extra milk to earn an income to meet other household items. Owning a cow has given me home and effort to work better. I have devoted much of my time on this amazing dairy project. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has broght hope to our lives."

"I spent the money I received from GiveDirectly on building an extension room for my children and cemented the floor of my house. We used to live in a small house which could not host all my family members conformable. My children now have their own private room. We were also being exposed to dusty particals because of the dusty floor. The rest of the money I spent on food and clothes for my children."
