"Receiving the GiveDirectly transfers will help in renovation and expansion of my current two-bed room house. I have four children, two boys and two girls.Besides the room being tiny, having all my children sharing a room is not morally right. Apart from that, the house is built using poles and mud which is not permanent. My plan is to reinforce the walls with concrete pillars as I add a single room for the boys. With KES 70 000 I will be able to realise this. For my future income generating activity, I purpose to venture into keeping traditional cattle which can resist the harsh climatic conditions of this area."

"The biggest challenge I am currently facing is getting a standard eating routine I.e three meals per day. Being very old, I am slowly becoming economically inactive and only depend on proceeds from my poultry farming. The KES 100 I get from the sales is hardly enough to sustain us and so we have to skip lunch so that we can survive. At my current age, I am supposed to be eating healthily but this is not the case."

"I have three children all of them below five years. They need a balanced diet and among them is milk. As we speak, I do not have any dairy cattle as I depend on buying from neighbors for domestic use. Receiving this money means that I will use KES 40000 to buy one dairy cattle to supplement my young family with milk. I will introduce a cattle feeding program to ensure that I get surplus milk of more than five litres a day to sell in the nearby market center. This will generate a regular source of income of KES 250 per day that I can use to cater for other needs. I intend also to use the remaining amount of the transfer to build a spacious house and furnish it."

"Since I came to my maternal land, life has not been good. Most of the the times I take one meal a day. This has contributed much for my ill-health. I was advised to take a lot of fruits and eat at least three meals a day but this has not been possible since I have no money. I had wished to start a small project which could support my life but no one volunteered to help me. I have been facing the future with despair."

"I am at the moment experiencing the challenge of inadequate food to sustain a good diet for an old person like me. I usually buy food sometimes when I get remittances of about KES. 300 monthly from my children but it is usually too little to last me even for a week. The rest of the time I have to depend on one food type or even sometimes I sleep hungry. This has weakened my body to a great extent over the past two years."

"I am not living in a good house and the tuition of my children is a serious challenge to me. The roof of the house is thatched and I have been thinking on making money to change the entire house to zinc round house. I am farmer, but the proceeds of the farm is not enough to help me achieve my dream. However, with the help of Givedirectly, I am now heading for the best."

"My house roof was damaged during heavy rains a couple of weeks ago. It was made of grasses which were rare to get since the sunny weather we were experiencing in this area. My ambition was to construct a new two-bedroom house with the first transfers, one for the girls and the other for my four boys. I will use the second transfer to seek ulcer treatment that sometimes hinders me from working to feed my children."

"Educating my children has been a challenge since the work that I do earns ten thousand Kenya shillings in a month, which is insufficient to feed and educate seven kids. My husband passed away six years ago and the treasures that he left us with were only livestock but due to the harsh weather of the previous seasons all the treasures that he left us perished. For now, I have no one to help me to raise my kids other than depending on the breaking rocks to earn a living."

"I spent most of my transfer on adding stock to my shop business and the rest on completion of my four roomed house which I started way before the GiveDirectly transfers. I spent the rest on maize and clothing for my family. Initially, I used to rely on maize and beans farming to feed my family and stock my shop."
