"It has never been easy buying enough milk for my family of five in the past months since I only had a heifer in my field. On receiving the first transfer, my household decided to purchase another dairy cow that will not only provide milk for our domestic use but also surplus for sale as a source of income. I spent KES 22000 of my first transfer on obtaining a good breed that has given me hope of plenty production of milk in the future. I also settled school fees for my daughter who had frequented coming home every week as the school management has always stressed the clearance of school fees for every student to enjoy all lessons in the term. I had to clear all the arrears and equip her with all the stationeries that she needed at a total cost of KES5400. I am glad that she is now settled with peace of mind, and no longer missing lessons. I had been living with my daughter-in-law who was not enrolled since she didn't have a house of her own, I spent KES10000 supporting her construction work that is almost complete at the moment. She is so happy that GiveDirectly gave us this support that has seen her house complete and will soon be moving into the new house. I spent the remaining amount on buying my clothes worth KES3200, obtained a sack f maize at KES2800, injected KES1000 into my grocery business, and also settled a debt of KES470 that I had. I am grateful for all that I have been able to do within this short time courtesy of GiveDirectly."

"I separated from my spouse eleven years ago, this left me with no option but to come back to my parent where she gave me a piece of land to live and raise my five children. I do farm weeding to earn a living and buy food for my children. This casual job pays little money about KES 200 daily and when I budget this money it is only enough to buy food for my household. When I receive this money I will set aside KES 50000 to buy a 0.1-acre piece of land and build a better house made of iron sheet. This will make me feel happy now that my family will have better housing. Milk is lucrative in our area and stable food for children. To enable me to tap more income, I will buy a cow with KES 30000 to enable me to produce milk for domestic and commercial consumption."

"I value education so much because I have witnessed the people with whom we grew up together excel in life because they got a good education. This is what I want my children to experience in life but it is so challenging to pay their school fees. I feel that soon some of them might have to wait for their siblings to finish first but it might not work because education needs to be continuous. I thank GiveDirectly so much for helping me out."

"The main challenge I am currently facing is the lack of enough land to do activities that will earn me a livelihood. It forces me to walk to the nearby town daily to look for casual jobs which have become so rare to come by lately I guess because most people don't have jobs also. I am however confident that soon I will be independent."

"The future of these children is what keeps me worried most of the time. I do not want them to live the kind of life am currently living because it is so challenging to meet their needs. I wish I could educate them seamlessly so that they can lead a better life in the future but I have the challenge of paying their school fees."

"Financial instability is the biggest challenge that I am currently facing. I am unskilled person and getting a good job to sustain my family of five has been a great challenge to me.
