"Our biggest nightmare is lack of money. We are forced to cut natural trees and make charcoal just for us to survive. We realise the importance of trees but we have nothing else to do. We rely on farming but it is not rewarding as it used to be."

"In this compound, my house has been the talk of the day. Every time it rains, the house always get flooded. The roof as you can see is almost falling down because it was constructed in 1994. So when I heard that Give Directly is coming in our village, I just said to myself God works mysteriously. I intend to spend approximately 40000KES to put up a two roomed house. With that house equipped with a bed and a mattress, I must say it will be a new beginning of my life."

"Raising school fees for my two children in secondary school is the challenge that I am facing currently. I still need to pay KES 30,000 arrears for the previous and this term. I used to own a small cerials bussiness but I used all the proceeds to pay their school fees and the business collapsed. I have been selling my cows to raise the money which directly reduces the income I get. This stresses me out."

"As a mother I was blessed with nine children but as we speak, I only have two. The cause of death for my children is still not clear with me. The recent one just happened one year ago. This last one really exhausted our finances to an extent that I thought he was going to survive but unfortunately he passed away. That curse has been following me for long now that it has installed fear every time one of my sons get sick."

"I have three children attending primary school. Each pays KES 1500 in fees per academic term. I have been struggling a lot to raise that doing menial jobs at a local mine. I averagely earn KES 2500 per week when I work. But being a very physical job, it's hard to do everyday of the week. I believe if I get this money, I will be able to offset their current cumulative arrears of KES 5800 and also pay for few next terms. This I believe will give me time to focus on other important family needs."

"Since I started living here I do not have a source of income, only depends on the support I get from my elder brother. Therefore it has been a lot of hustling to be able to feed my family and to keep my children in school. But I perfectly understand my brother cannot financially help us a hundred percent all the time."

"My husband is a motorcycle taxi rider earning a net of KES 100 daily. He is riding a rented bike meaning he has to pay the owner KES 300 everyday. It's been two years without economic involvement since I was married. When I get this money I want to start a business selling vegetables and other essentials. This way I will be able to supplement his income and together we can effectively take care of our child."
