"I spent my transfer to purchase a bicycle for KES 14,000. This was to help me in looking for water for my family because of the drought that strike our area. Previously, my wife had to walk a long distance to get this precious commodity something that makes her constantly complaining about body aches. In addition, I bought 14 iron sheets for KES 650 each this was for the construction of a shelter for my 2 grown-up children who were seeking shelter from their grandfather. Furthermore, I supported the education of my 5 children by paying the school fees arrears. It was 3 months since I paid the school fee and their balance had reached KES 10,000. I also bought food for the family with the remaining amount."

"I spent KES 15,000 to purchase 5 goats this was to accomplish my goal of owning livestock a future investment for my kid's educational needs. I also used KES 2000 to clear the fee balances of my two children who are still in primary school. Similarly, I bought one pair of school uniforms for each one of them. Previously, they were going to school in casual clothes unlike the pupils, I was very ashamed whenever I escort them to school every day. Furthermore, I bought a bed and mattress for KES 10,000 this is because I was using old rags as beddings which were uncomfortable. With the remaining amount, I bought sufficient food and water because we are experiencing drought and famine in our area."

"I spent my transfer to educate my 3 grandchildren who are in secondary school, they are in form 1, 3, and 4 respectively. I used KES 20,000 to settle their fee arrears. In addition, I used 5,000 to purchase pairs of clothes for my spouse and I since we were wearing worn-out clothes that were embarrassing whenever I attended community gatherings. I saved some of the remaining amount to restart livestock rearing once the drought is over since most of my animals died because of the lack of pasture and water due to the drought conditions in our area. I am planning to purchase 4 goats when it rains. In addition, I bought enough food and water with the remaining part."

"The biggest difference in your daily life is that I am now sleeping on comfortable beddings after purchasing a modern bed and mattress. Similarly, It is the norms the most people are moving away from using the traditional beddings which are so hard resulting into back pain every morning. Furthermore, I have some livestock which I will depend on whenever I face any challenge in the future."

"The transfer has brought a very big difference in my life and that of my family. This is because with the water tank that we bought, we have been able to collect some rain water. We now have access to clean water and we no longer make long trips to the river to fetch water. We also no longer incur the cost of buying water."

"I spent the transfer money on three things that were most important to me and my family. I spent KES 38000 on cementing the floor of the house that we were living in. I had sold one of my cows before and I used the money in constructing the house. I was however not able to complete it since the money was not enough. Although it wasn't that conducive for us to live in due to the dust on the floor, we decided to just move into it. I have been planning to cement it but I haven't been in a position to do so due to financial constraints. I have a few cows and I usually supply three to four litres of milk to a nearby milk cooling plant whereby we get paid at the end of the month. The money that I make from the sales is not much and is only enough to use in taking care of the cows, buying food, and paying part of the school fees for my children. So when GiveDirectly came up with this program, I saw an opportunity to achieve this and I am so grateful since my family and I now live in a house that is free from dust. Other than cementing the floor, I bought a calf at KES 12000 and with the remaining KES 4000, I used it in paying school fees for my child who is in form four."

"I spent part of my forst transfer on buying a few building materials which include the iron sheets which cost KES 16200, nails at KES 2000, the building poles at a total of KES 3000, and gave the mason KES 6000. I had to prioritize the issue of housing because the previous one was very small and ut couldn't accommodate my whole family which is comprised of three members. Also, I had to store all my household items under a tree and they were always stolen and some damaged. I also bought new clothes ad shoes for my spouse and child for the Christmas celebrations. Finally, with the remaining amount of money, I bought foodstuffs such as maize flour, cereals, vegetables, and cater for the other household items that would sustain us for a couple of days. We are now happy because we no longer skip meals like before courtesy of GiveDirectly."

"One of the main challenge I face is lack of a stable income. My children are sometimes wearing torn clothes in school. This is a great embarrassment to me as their mother. I really feel that if I could afford to buy them good clothes that will make them presentable. This transfers will enable me to start a business which will eventually be a source of income in my family."
