"I spent my most recent transfer to buy a parcel of land. I only had one parcel of land apart from where my home is situated. The available parcel had been too small thus my two sons and I could not use it simultaneously. As a result of the GiveDirectly's transfer, I have bought my own piece of land that I shall use mainly for farming. The total cost of that piece of land was KES 50,000."

"I have enough maize but I do not have enough relish. I sell tomatoes as a source of money but it is still not enough to buy all the needs at home"

"My biggest challenge is the condition that my husband is in. He has been diagnosed with chest complications because of doing tough jobs like wine tapping, charcoal burning and even clearing bushes around. Now that he is getting old, he can no longer do any work and I have to work extra to get food on the table. We are the only ones at home, so we don't depend on anyone, I hope that the last transfer will help us cater for our basic needs."

"I'm living in an old house that my husband build over twenty years ago shared between me and my co-wife. The house is currently not in a very good condition as you can see. The whole of that roof is seriously leaking and that water washes down the walls. When I get this money, I will first off renovate my house until I'm satisfied with it before I do anything else. The worn out iron sheets on the roof need replacement and also walls must be reinforced. I would also love to improve it by plastering all over. I know this project will require me to save up my money until I have nearly fifty thousand."

"I'm a subsistence farmer who hasn't harvest anything in the last two years due to draught. Most of the time I have been depending on my eldest son for support. He pays school fees for my three last children and also feeds us. I have always longed to renovate my current house which is still in a good condition but old. When I get this money I will do that, probably by changing the roof and cementing walls and floor."

"My daughter has been ailing for about 10 years, she is suffering from epilepsy and stroke. We don't have enough cash to take her to good health facility, so I have to attend to her all the time. Because of her critical condition, I cannot even do casual jobs, because my daughter needs my attention 24 hours and seven days In a week. Am tired because of carrying her all over, as she is a grown woman at least if I get a wheel chair, it could work well for me at least she could walk herself out."

"I'm a peasant living with my husband and our three children. The children are still attending a local secondary school. We pay part of their school fees with my husband whenever we can, but my son who's a physician pays most of it. When I get this money I would like to use it mostly to pay school fees for my children. Since education is still the most precious gift parents can offer their children, I do not want to fail. I know my elder son is willing to help but he also has his personal commitments."

"I do not like the life I'm living right now with my parents. Since I came back about ten months ago, my little brothers have been giving me hard by refusing to participate in doing household chores. They expect me to do nearly everything for them and this is seriously exhausting."

"It's a great opportunity that came at the right time, I have my first born daughter who will be joining form 1 next year, and I didn't have any plans on how to get her school fees. So by receiving this first transfer I will ensure I pay all her school fees, do a shopping for her and buy stationery for my other kids who are in lower primary. All the school costs roughly come to 50000 KSH, for the remaining amount I plan to start rearing chicken for profit."

"We have a big family of about ten members, majority adults. They're all having the same cooking arrangements with only my brother and I who are having sources of income. This overdependence makes it hard for me to grow. I end up spending about sixty percent of my income supporting them."
