"I spent KES 20000 of my recent transfer money on paying school fees for my two children. I am glad that I was able to clear the whole term's school fees and hence my children have been able to study well without worrying that they are going to be sent home due to arrears. I also bought some of the items that I was missing in my house. I bought chairs, a bed, a battery, and a television. I am happy that these are the things that I had always wanted to have but due to lack of money I was not in a position to buy them. I now can sit down and catch up on my favourite programs over the television. With the remaining transfer money, I used part of it in buying food and I invested a little of it in my grocery business. The business is what usually helps me in raising money for paying school fees for the two children who are in secondary school. I also usually buy trees, cut them down and I supply firewood to my children's school. I still have some money with me which is helping me in purchasing food and household items such as soap, cooking oil, etc. I am thus stress free and so much grateful to GiveDirectly for uplifting our living standards."

"Initially, I had planned to pay school fees for only daughter who is currently in four form. Immediately I settled her fee arrears, I was able to develope a new plan of building a new house. For the past 5 years, I had been living in a grass thatched house whose sides have been washed off by rain. In addition, its roof had been leaking despite my several attempts to repair it. I am so glad that currently I am having an iron roofed house with an additional room. I am no longer worried about rains."

"GiveDirectly did well in all aspects of their operations and I do not see anything that they did not do well. Their officers respected everyone that they came in contact with and I heard no form of harassment from them. Also, they were keen on details and made sure that understood everything they informed us of."

"The house that we currently live in is made of mud and it was built on the water pathway. During the rainy season like at the moment, our house has become dumpy and we've had to move most of our belongings and beddings to the kitchen. It is my wish to build a more permanent house where I will not have to worry about anything during the rainy season. I do not have the finances to achieve this now but I believe that I will achieve it once my two children who are in tertiary institutions are through with their studies. This is because I will have some money that I can save since the burden of paying school fees will have been reduced."

"GiveDirectly did well by deciding to give out financial aid to poor people and giving them the freedom to choose what to spend on. Because of this, we were able to achieve so many things ranging from building iron-roofed houses, buying assets, to feeding well. We would not have achieved all this had they not decided to give us a helping hand."
