"Before receiving my recent transfer from GiveDirectly, I never had the thought of building a house for my mother. As a widow and farmer, not enough money is raised from the sale of cassava. Every cent earned is used to take care of my family daily needs. Therefore, I have decided to use my recent transfer to built a new house for my Mother. However, a portion of the money was used for the purchasing of three bundles of zinc. Furthermore, the remaining money was spend on buying a new mattress for my Mother. I am very excited to be one of the beneficiaries of this unique opportunity."

"I spent most of the transfer which was KES 35000 on buying an acre of land for farming because I didn't have one before and I used to lease which was both expensive and inconveniencing as it was only limited to the seasonal maize farming. There was no freedom in leasing land, since there couldn't be continuous farming or growing of various durable and long term crops and plants, like cassava and cashewnuts which are relatively drought tolerant and particularly do well in this dry climate of our area. I couldn't afford to buy myself this land that I desired because my job as a local food café waitress hardly raised enough to enable me get it. Therefore, I am so happy to have this land that I now own and have the freedom to plant and grow the crops and plants of my own choice without interference from anyone."
