"The cash transfers have changed my life in that they empowered me to purchase cows and household items like bedding, utensils, clothes that I had longed to own for a long time. I also helped my parents to clear their outstanding debts. However, I am now focussed on working hard so that I can find a wife to marry. Before I received the cash transfers, life was hard and I had nothing presentable in my house. I was always dressed in old tattered clothes. I am now happy because I can now walk confidently in nice decent clothes."

"I used my second transfer to buy a dairy cow. This will provide enough milk for my family in future. I have been buying milk for many years and this was costly since I depend on the little money I get as a Patent Teachers Association (PTA) teacher. Owning this cow will bring to an end the struggles I have been going through and I will be able to save the money that I would have used to buy milk and use to pay school fees for my children. I also bought two bags of maize since I did not have enough food for my family and I have been buying maize flour daily and this was expensive. I also used the remaining amount to pay school fees for my child in boarding primary school since I had not cleared the arrears for the previous term."

"I used my second transfer to build a new kitchen. I was living in a small grass-thatched kitchen and it was also leaking during the rainy season. I also bought a dairy cow since I have been struggling for many years to buy milk for my family and this was costly since I earn little money from casual jobs. At times my family could take black tea when I did not get money to buy milk and used to worry me a lot. I am now happy since I have enough milk for my family. I also bought hybrid maize seeds since I have never planted quality seeds because I could afford. This will thus ensure enough food for my family in the next harvest season."

"My life is different in many ways now than It would have been at the event that I had not received the transfers. The total number of assets that I own has greatly increased since I received these transfers. I now have a dairy cow and a family house. These are things I never thought I could own them anytime soon. The small amounts of money that I got from my daily casual jobs could only get enough for me to feed the family."

"I am nowadays a woman of dignity and value since I managed to buy cows and paid dowry. My husband is a casual labor with meager earnings who could not save and fulfill the cultural dictate of legalizing our marriage. I feel happy and honoured since I love my family. I have hope for the future in that I have bought enough iron sheets in readiness to built a better house and establish my home. There is a lot of freedom in one's home as most decisions for development are never frustrated by other people who think they have full authority to decide on my wishes and destinies. I have a sugarcane farm that is of economic value which I shall eventually harvest and use the money to pay school fees for my children when they get to secondary and college level. Thanks for GiveDirectly."
