"My greatest desire has always been to build a more spacious house, since the hut we currently live in is tiny for a family of five and it is in a deplorable condition since it leaks in water whenever it rains. I will therefore build a two roomed iron roofed house that will ensure comfort for my children who are usually subjected to cold hence vulnerable to contacting diseases such as flu and pneumonia. Installing gutters around the house will also ensure i harvest enough clean water during rainy seasons which means i will spend the remaining part of my transfer to install two 300 litres water tanks to store enough water"

"My dream has always been to build another house.A bigger one with an iron roof.My current house is small and grass thatched. It leaks during the rainy season.I have never owned a house with an iron roof and I am happy that Give Directly will make this happen. The house will cost me not less than Ksh 40,000(400 USD).My second plan is buying a dairy cow.I have one cow that produces 2 litres a day.My target is boosting this to 7 litres a day by buying a more improved breed. The cost of 1 litre of milk is Ksh 30.With Ksh 210 a day I will be able to buy food without struggling much. "When we received the first transfer, my and I combined the amounts which we used to renovate and plaster both our main house and the kitchen which now look new and beautiful. The roof to the main house was rusty and the houses were both dusty as they were made of much. I had always wanted to plaster the houses but could not due to low income and I was always stressed on how to raise the money. Am very proud of how we spent our transfer because we are now living in a better environment than we were before Give Directly came to our village and I am even happier that I do not have to worry about raising money to renovate the houses which was a big challenge to me."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to renovate my house that I am sleeping in. The iron sheets that are on the roof at old and are leaking. I will buy a cow to act as an investment for my household. When it multiplies, I will sell some, in order to pay school fees to my children. Currently, I struggle to do some farming in order to pay their school fees."

"The other difference in my life in the last four months is that I was able to acquire a solar system. It has been my dream to light with the solar system since buying kerosene on a daily basis is very costly yet I do not have a stable source of income. I have always feared using kerosene because of the kind of roof I had. I knew my house could easily catch fire when roofed with grass than iron sheets. With GD transfers, I have been able to buy a solar system which helps me in lighting at night and reduce my daily expenditure especially since I don't buy kerosene on a daily basis."

"My new or additional goals for my life is to renovate the roof of my house because it is too old and it leaks during rains. I am working hard by saving part of my transfer to enable me to buy iron sheets that I will use in the renovation process I have been longing to change the roof of my house but due to lack of money, I had even stopped thinking that one day I would do so. I really thank Give Directly because I am now hopeful that I am going to meet my dream of living in a better a house."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have a new iron-roofed house. I have been living in a two-roomed house for the last two years. Since my family has been growing, we needed more space to accommodate us well. As a result, I thought of building a bigger house than the one I had. I knew that was the only way I could solve the issue once and for all. Because I did not have the resources, I was still putting up in the house I had. GD transfers has helped me put up a three-roomed house. I used the transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets, timber and nails for putting up a new house. Right now, I do not feel the pressure I had of providing accommodation for my family. Thanks to GD."
