"GiveDirectly has been very supportive, and I am grateful for their help. My plan is that when I receive my third transfer, I will invest in a poultry rearing business. I will use the money to buy chickens and start selling eggs and chickens to improve my life. This business will provide a steady income and help me pay for my children’s school fees, which is very important to me. I appreciate how GiveDirectly has helped me so far, as it has given me the chance to plan for my future. However, I would appreciate even more guidance on managing a business to ensure I make the most out of this opportunity."

received a $347 second payment.
"When I receive my third transfer, I plan to invest it in farming. If the harvest turns out well, I will reinvest the income in agriculture, focusing on both livestock and crops. I especially want to buy cows because I love milk and want to have my own cows to milk daily. Before I got married, I used to drink milk freely at my father's home, and I could have as much as I wanted at any time. Now, I can’t enjoy milk in the same way because I don’t have my own cows, and going back to my father’s home is not an option since I am married. Owning cows will give me the independence to enjoy milk again while also providing for my family’s needs."

Christine
received a $347 second payment.
"My primary goal is to use the income from my farm harvest to establish a chicken-rearing business because I believe it has less competition compared to running a shop at home. This venture feels more practical and sustainable, offering a reliable source of income to support my family. The earnings from the chicken business will be used to pay for my children’s school fees, which is my top priority. I am confident in this plan, as it aligns well with my skills and the resources I have available. I believe this approach will not only provide financial stability but also improve the overall quality of life for my family. With optimism, I see this as a clear pathway to creating a better and more secure future for us all."

"Our motorcycle stalled due to mechanical issues yet we depend on it to supply water in the village. Even though we don't know exactly what the issue is, we intend to spend approximately KES 10,000 on our first transfer to repair it and the remaining cash will be spent on buying food and improving our house. Getting our motorcycle into motion again will be the joy of our life as we will increase household income through the increased sale of water. I am glad that soon our problems will be forgotten and lead a better life. This will be realized through the transfers that we will get from Give Directly and I am filled with joy about it."

Daniel
received a $27 twenty-eighth payment.
"In the coming year and beyond, I plan to focus on building a better house for my family. I also want to boost my wife’s business, as it plays a crucial role in providing food for our family while I focus on other responsibilities. My current house is made of mud, and the walls have become weak over time. It is risky to stay there, as we fear it could collapse during a heavy downpour or strong winds. Unfortunately, we do not have an alternative at the moment, so we continue to live there. To achieve this goal, I plan to use part of my daily income from my motorbike taxi business, combined with my GiveDirectly income, to buy building materials. This time, I want to build a solid house with stone walls, as stones are easily accessible in our area. Once the house is complete, I will focus on expanding my wife’s business by adding more items and increasing the quantity of existing goods, ensuring she has enough stock to attract more customers."

Veronica
received a $27 thirty-fourth payment.
"I am currently in Form Three, with one more year to complete my secondary school education. My goal is to join KMTC, so I need to focus on my studies to achieve excellent results. In the coming year and beyond, I plan to dedicate myself fully to my studies to reach this goal. To ensure this, I intend to use part of my transfers to pay my school fees on time, avoiding the risk of being sent home for unpaid balances. With any remaining funds after covering my fees, I will support my younger siblings' education. I am deeply grateful for the financial support, as it has also allowed me to invest in poultry farming, providing a foundation for my financial security in the future."

received a $27 twenty-second payment.
"I am currently in Form One, and I am grateful to GiveDirectly transfers that have made me stay in school, as my parents are peasant farmers. When I began receiving these transfers, I took the initiative to support myself, allowing my parents to focus on covering the fees for my younger siblings. Since the transfers have a set timeline, I decided to invest them in a project to help sustain my education even after they end, knowing I still have a long journey ahead. Initially, I invested in a poultry project, growing my flock to nearly 50 chickens. Unfortunately, a disease outbreak wiped out all my chickens while I was at school, leaving me devastated. I have since revised my plan and now aim to invest in goats using my GiveDirectly transfers. This is my goal for the coming year and beyond, as goats multiply quickly and will provide me with future financial security. I have also started paying my school fees for next year to avoid a large fee balance, giving me the opportunity to save and buy goats, with my parents overseeing their care."

"Receiving this cash transfer means safety and comfort to my family. In the year 2020 ,my only house felt down due to the effects of rains and termites invasion on the timbers.Establishing a new house has been in vain especially at this moments where it's difficult to get a source of income.GiveDirectly's transfers is truly an answered prayer to me, I thought all my life I would live in borrowed houses shifting from one to another.I am so much indebted to Givedirectly, I will use KES 80000 to build a 2 roomed cemented house, buy furnitures and utensils. The construction of this house will elevate my reputation in the village hence a happy life for me and my three children."

"After my initiation to adulthood in the year 2013, I was forced to stand up as a man and start up my own life.My disabled grandmother could not take care of me,hence I had to be a responsible adult to provide for her . Living in a decent house is like a nightmare to me,all along I have been living in abandoned houses belonging to relatives in the village,to be specific I have lived in 5 different houses some of which were damaged by rains and others fell due to termites invasion. My heartfelt need now is to put up my own 3 roomed decent house this will cost me KES 20000 .With this house my self worth in the society will also gain value.I also plan to spend KES 12000 on buying my own fishing net in order to continue earning daily income to support my family."

"I have a plan to start a small business shop at home when I receive my third transfer, as I believe it will help me generate profit. This business will allow me to expand my activities and create a steady income that I can use to support my farming efforts. With the extra income, I will be able to buy seeds, tools, and other essentials to improve my farm. I also plan to reinvest some of the profits into the business to help it grow. This shop will be a source of financial stability for my family, and it will enable me to plan better for the future. I am confident that this plan will help me achieve long-term success."
