Josephine
received a $27 twenty-sixth payment.
"With my prior transfers, I had already purchased poultry with the hopes that they would multiply and grow in number. Using the chickens that have multiplied, I plan to sell them, acquire goats in the hopes that they will also multiply, trade them for cows, and eventually start a livestock farm, specializing in cows. In order for my children to be able to support themselves and take care of me in the future, I also plan to urge them to finish their school and support them utilizing the transfers i receive from Givedirectly."

Jumaa
received a $27 twenty-first payment.
"My main goal is to join college. I completed my Form Four in March 2022, at Mlanza Secondary School. I want to enroll in a wiring course because the grade I got can easily be accepted for me to join it. The course will take two years to complete. I also believe wiring is a good course because everyone who does it makes it in life. I am planning to enroll for it in July after I receive money from my merry-go-round. This will help me and I will also be selling my chicken and my three goats so that I can be able to fund myself at school. I am required to pay $250 per year and I will be able to meet this as I will also be doing side hustles like selling clothes as well. I am fully prepared and I believe I will achieve all my goals in life."

Rashid
received a $27 twenty-fifth payment.
"My main goal is to improve our living standards. I have opened a shop and I plan to expand my business. By the time I have completely received my transfers, I would have expanded my business and it will have been stable enough to bring in a lot of profit. We had tried a lot of businesses before, like raring chicken but they all died and I am left with six right now. I plan then to invest more in expanding my shop because I believe I will only make profit and no loss this time round."

Hadija
received a $27 twenty-first payment.
"Upon receiving my transfer, my first priority is always purchasing food. With $30, I ensured my family wouldn't go hungry for days by stocking up on food. Additionally, I'm part of a monthly merry-go-round where each member contributes $10; from my transfers, I've already contributed $30 towards this. Currently, my primary focus is saving towards my goals, particularly my dream of building a house. The house I currently live in belongs to my son, as mine collapsed during the rainy season. I have also invested $18 in purchasing five chickens, with hopes that they will hatch and will provide additional income for my house-building project and enable me to pursue further education. The remaining $24 was allocated to paying my four children's school fees. They had been sent home due to unpaid fees, so I took immediate action to ensure their education continues with out being interrupted."

Kahunda
enrolled.
"My dream of raising chickens, mostly for commercial purposes, was realized in early March when the two ducks I received from a friend gave birth to twenty ducklings. I stayed with eighteen, as per our agreement, while she took two. With the money I earned from burning charcoal, I later purchased five chicks, and they have since multiplied to sixteen. The realization that my dream has come true has filled me with happiness and contentment, as I know that I will soon have a source of income and be able to assist my husband with some household duties."

Jane
received a $140 initial payment.
"I used to go without food for days because I couldn't afford to buy enough foodstuffs. I work on other people's farms as a casual labourer, but the work is sometimes unreliable. My husband provides taxi services with his motorcycle, but it's also not enough to support our family. Since receiving financial assistance, we no longer have to worry about food shortages. We were able to buy enough food to last us for several weeks. Now, I can save some of the money I earn from my farm work for the future. We also didn't have any livestock, but now we have two sheep and two chickens, which we hope will multiply and provide extra income."

Priscillar
received a $26 twenty-sixth payment.
"Initially, I used to hustle a lot by burning and selling charcoal to make ends meet, often supplementing this with casual jobs. I have three school-going children. Through these harsh struggles, I managed to educate my eldest child until he finished secondary school, which is an achievement I am very proud of.
When I received my most recent transfer, I allocated $78 to buying food. Due to the harsh weather conditions last harvest season, I didn't get anything because the sun burnt down all my crops. Hence, I saw it was wise to have a stock of food and continue hustling for school fees. With the remaining amount, I spent $12 on paying fees for my children, dividing a smaller portion to each one of them. Finally, I bought four chickens at $3 each for domestic rearing. I chose this because chickens multiply quickly, and if I take good care of them, they will serve as my future financial security.
I am truly appreciative of the support from GiveDirectly, which has significantly improved my life and enabled me to better support my family's needs."

Brian
received a $27 twenty-ninth payment.
"I plan to expand my livestock from thirty chickens to over a hundred, and from one goat to ten before this year ends.Being a farmer, I have developed a keen interest in livestock. Chickens, in particular, are easy to multiply, especially when well-fed, and I can easily sell mature ones to acquire goats. Additionally, I intend to open a shop where I can sell foodstuffs to people in my village. This endeavor will not only enhance our living standards but also provide a sustainable source of income."

Furaha
received a $27 twenty-ninth payment.
"I pray to the Almighty God to guide me in transforming my life. I am determined to break free from my current circumstances and pursue a brighter future. My plan is to invest in livestock, starting with chickens and gradually expanding to goats and eventually cows. By selling the chickens, I will be able to acquire goats, which will in turn provide a foundation for obtaining cows. These animals will not only multiply, but also provide valuable resources like milk and the bulls that I will acquire will be used for farming. Additionally, I have ventured into buying and selling dried fish to further increase my income. Each step of this journey is driven by my desire to elevate our living standards and create a sustainable future for myself and my family."
