"Words cannot express how happy I was when I finally bought a water tank, I knew this would take a while if I were to buy with my savings, I am glad that I was able to achieve all this within a short time. I am now assured of harvesting the rainwater and it will not go to waste because I now have a storage tank, I am relieved that this will minimize the number of trips we make to the stream daily, GiveDirectly brought hope in my lives and I am grateful for the support that has impacted our lives."

Nowadays, this is job is hard to get since most of the construction stopped because of lack of water as a result of the drought condition. It was around 10 am, I was at my working place when I received the Mpesa message on my phone. I couldn't believe my eyes after checking my account balance. I had received KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. "I am a mother of 9, 4 of them school going children but my husband and I can't seem to be keeping up with school fees. I sell cassava for a living and my husband works in Kaloleni as a casual laborer in a laundry shop, making very little money. We have had to let two of our children drop out of school and search for casual jobs like fetching water for others, washing motorbikes and maids so that we can keep afloat. This breaks my heart because they are very bright and I hope that someday, somehow, they will go through school to university level and be people of substance in the world."

"Drought has ravaged our land for so long. There is no water for both human and animal consumption. We are obligated to move our animals to a distance of almost 20 kilometers in search of water and pasture. Last year, I decided to join hands with my sons to manually dig a water pan that will conserve enough water for our animals. This has never been realized due to lack of machinery. I plan to use the transfers to hire a tractor to help me dig the water pan for my animals."
