Sidi
received a $477 initial payment.
"I was at the bush collecting firewood for my family. I remember it was around 3 pm when I received the mpesa message notification on my phone. I continued fetching the firewood until later when I returned home for my son to check my phone. It was a very joyous moment when I was informed that I had received my transfer. My husband was out in the field looking after our cows. I waited until evening to inform my spouse and plan on how to use our transfer to better our life."

Peter
received a $477 second payment.
"I am a casual labourer and a father of six children. Upon receiving my transfer I used a sum of KES 40,000 to purchase a dairy cow. This is because I have been buying milk daily which was very expensive on my side. I was unable to afford a cow before due to unstable sources of income. I then used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I am so thankful for the support that brought a positive change in my life."

Paul
received a $477 second payment.
"I am a community health volunteer, at the moment I have only one child who is still schooling. Life has not been easy because I depend on the little stipend for livelihood. Upon the receipt of my second transfer, I prioritised paying school fees of KES 30,000 for my son. I then used KES 20,000 in purchasing a dairy cow for purposes of milk production and also to gain profit from selling milk. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I was unable to accomplish this before due to financial constraints. I am so grateful for the support that brought so much happiness to my life."

Chebole
received a $461 second payment.
"My new goal is to rear improved breeds of cattle. I am a veterinarian and I have observed that in our area, there is shortage of milk supply. The demand for milk is high. I, therefore, would like to rear the improved breeds of cows so that I can get more milk that I can sell and get money that will enable me to improve my veterinary business, that is, to buy drugs for treating livestock."

John
received a $477 second payment.
"My new goal is to buy another cow. I had one cow before the transfers and I managed to buy a calf with part of the recent transfer. I would like to buy another cow to add to the one that I am milking because I usually supply some of my milk to a nearby milk cooling plant. The money that I get paid usually helps me in paying school fees for my four children. Two who are in primary school and the other two are in secondary school. Buying another cow will mean increased milk supply and hence more income."

David
received a $461 second payment.
"My new goal is to start a business of buying and selling cows. I would like to start the business so that it can help me in getting money for paying school fees for my five children. This way, I will not be forced to sell the cows that I bought with the transfers to raise money for paying school fees. I am a farmer and I usually plant vegetables and sell them. The money that I get from the sales, is what usually helps me in paying school fees for my children and paying for the merry-go-round contributions."

Kibet
received a $461 second payment.
"I am a father of four and I have been working as a casual laborer on a flower farm for the past three years. And every month, I get pay of KES 7000 per month which feeds my family and schools my kids. Since I got my job I have desired to have a dairy cow but couldn't afford it. This is because I work far away from home and from my salary I normally pay my rent in addition to sending remittances to my family.
All along since I married I have been depending on my parents for milk. And on dry spells, we normally buy two cups of milk at KES 30 from the milk vendors. Therefore, when I received my first transfer I bought a dairy cow which is due in a few weeks. And recently, when I received the second transfer I also bought a heifer at KES 30,000. This means increased milk production once it reproduces.
Secondly, I furnished my house with four sets of modern furniture at KES 15,000. These are more comfortable compared to the locally made benches which we had earlier.
Lastly, I used KES 8,000 on repayment of a maize debt. I also spent KES 3,000 on the purchase of a bag of maize which has sustained us for the past month and the remainder will sustain us for the next month."
