Agnes
received a $461 second payment.
"We spent most of our recent transfer on buying a cow. We bought it at KES 45000. We had only managed to buy a calf with part of the money that we got in the first transfer because we still had other things to take care of. So, when we got the second transfer, we decided to buy a lactating cow so that we could have milk supply for our consumption and for sale. We plan to supply some of the milk to the schools where our children are studying and by doing so we get to pay for their school fees. We used to have one cow before that we had borrowed from someone. The milk that we used to get was little and it was only enough for our consumption. It has always been our wish to buy our own but we didn't have the money. We are thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly because they enabled us to achieve our dream and our standard of living has thus been uplifted. With the remaining transfer amount, we used it on buying the essential household items such as sugar."

"Receiving this amount will be a milestone to me. Currently I work as a casual laborer in house construction. The pay per day is KES 400 which is not enough to feed my family of four members. I have always thought of taking a masonery course to enable me be a specialized mason and thus I will bid jobs on my own. The course costs approximately KES 20000. If I become lucky to receive the transfer I will consider buying dairy cows with the balance. I am much overwhelmed by the initiative from Give Directly."

"Receiving this money means buying a dairy cow. in my old age, I would like to engage myself in productive activities that are not phisicaly taxing like rearing vows. I will buy a cow at KES 50,000. I will also furnish my house and build a maize store and refrain from keeping grains in the same room as the one I live in. This will make my home more conducive."

"Receiving this money will be a big boost to me. I completed my secondary school level the previous year and got married 5 months ago. I am not stable at all having recovered fully from stroke late last year. The transfer will help me build a better house than the single grass thatched house that I currently live in. I will also consider purchasing a dairy cow for my household. I am happy for Give Directly's visit and I am optimistic about the transfer so that I can kick start my life after few months of independency."

"What brought me joy and happiness is the average rains we have experienced from last year November Upto now. Firstly,I harvested one and half bags of maize in the month of February 2022 and this helped me out from buying maize for domestic use. Secondly, the rains became the genesis for plenty animal feeds. I am happy that my dairy cow will soon give birth."

"Since I have been able to build a house, it is my desire to buy a dairy cow since buying milk has been my routine and it is expensive. I am planning to start saving part of my income towards this and I believe that with time, I will be able to raise enough money to even buy a heifer."

"GiveDirectly gave out financial aid in terms of cash transfer and this is what they did best and I do not see anything that they did not do well. Because of this, our lives have been uplifted in different ways. Personally, I am a proud owner of a dairy cow and experience peaceful nights unlike before since I now have a bed and a mattress that I sleep on."

"So far, I have been able to buy four points of land, build a bigger house and purchase a dairy cow. I am happy that GiveDirectly helped me in achieving this and it is my desire to increase the size of land by acquiring more. This is the project I have in mind and I am planning to start saving for it. Apart from the confidence that I will gain from having a big portion of land, I will be able to set aside a section for animal feeds and a section to plant some crops like vegetables and maize for subsistence use."

"Am married in a polygamous family, where our husband is very old and depend on me and my cowife for his needs, I work as a cook at a local school, and the salary is very small, I would say my dream is to get a good business that can sustain me whenever schools are closed.
I have a huge burden of school fees arrears and providing basic needs for my family is a night mare."

"The drought in this area has been very severe. I have cows and goats which act as my other source of income. It has reached a point I have to buy grass for my cattle. It is a very expensive considering the fact that I have many other responsibilities. I lost three goats and one cow because of the same and that was a very painful event."
