Joseph
received a $477 second payment.
"I used to work for a Telecom company but got retrenched in the year 2018 and since then, I have been depending on dairy farming. I am glad that my wife has been supportive in paying for our bills and school fees for our three children at different levels of education. With my second transfer, I spent KES 16500 to pay two months' house rent for my son at the university since he does not live inside the school hostels and gave him KES 10500 as upkeep money for the two months. I used the remaining amount to purchase a dairy cow worth KES 30000 after topping up some amount. This is an investment that will lead to an increase in my income as a result of an increase in milk production when it calves."

Thomas
received a $26 initial payment.
"I had just acquired a motorbike on loan so as to start my bodaboda job since I'm the breadwinner in my family. My spouse has no job at the moment, she stays at home looking after our four kids. On receiving my first transfer of KES 3050, I withdrew it all and used KES 2000 to repay the loan since it was long over due and the seller was claiming to get it back if I didn't honor the agreement. One of my cows at home was ill and thus I used KES 500 to have it treated at the nearest veterinary. The remaining KES 500 I bought food for my family at home since it was almost running out."

received a $461 second payment.
"I used KES 15000 to buy additional livestock having bought one from the first transfer and deposted some money for the second. These dairy cows shall be very much helpful in making sure that we are able to sell and put food on the table for my family all year round. I used another KES 20000 to pay school fees for my children and be able to keep them in school all year round and the remainder was used to buy iron sheets for buidlding a kitchen. For a long time, we had had to use a very old delapidated kitchen since we did not have enough money that would see us buikd a brand new one. I am thankful that GiveDirectly has came to cover the shame that I have lived with for a very long time now. Moreover, I have been able to upgrade from running a small business of groceries and I now sell second hand clothes which gives us more income and thus the sureity to better living standards."

Nehemiah
received a $461 second payment.
"We have a new goal of transferring our children from a local primary school where they currently are and taking them to a private school where they can have better education. This plan came about after we bought the dairy cows that we now have and which we never had before. Once they all produce mikk, we are suure to have enough milk that we can even sell and be able to pay school fees for them. We are so grateful for the assistance we got from GiveDirectly and we are happ that it will transform our lives in a very great way."

"I live next to Chepalungu Forest and our main activity is cattle keeping since the management of the forest has allowed us to graze our livestock inside. I have a desire to venture into cattle keeping on a large scale because the forest is vast and can accommodate livestock in large numbers. I plan to spend KES 50,000 to buy 5 cows each costing KES 10,000. This will be a good starting point towards achieving my long-term dream. Receiving this money will put me in a good position to start cattle keeping business"

"Giving money to the poor in the community to build a better houses and to purchase dairy cows is what GiveDirectly does well. Most people had improved their standards of living by spending the money on good projects. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"I am a young adult from a humble background and my parents have been separated for more than 15 years. Getting basic needs such as food and clothing has been a challenge for me. Also, income from my casual labor (KES 150 daily) is barely enough to suffice my needs. So, receiving this money means that I shall afford to buy a dairy cow to get us milk in the future once I get married. I am now happy and confident that my family shall be food-secure once I invest in the cow."

"I have two children in boarding secondary school and paying for their school fees has been quite challenging due to insufficient finances. My husband depends on house construction jobs in town for income whereas I burn charcoal for sale in the village. All these resources combined are not enough to pay our children's school fees as well as buy basic requirements in the family. The burnout to make ends meet for the family is too much and I am afraid if this continues I might break down. Receiving these transfers will help me sort out my children's fees which amount to 46,500 KES and use 26,000 KES to buy two female cows that can multiply. I will then use the remaining balance to buy two mattresses for my children who currently sleep on a very uncomfortable mat."

"We were able to save some money from my husband's little earnings. We bought a cow from these savings. This elicited happiness in the family because it was the first step toward growth. Soon we will start milking in view of the fact that it's pregnant."

""If I am fortunate to receive this transfer from GiveDirectly-Liberia, I will use it to purchase some cows or cattles for raising and used the balance money if there is any for my children schooling. I believed when I invest in those animals, at the end; I will get more money for me and my children up-keep"."
