"I have four children who are at different levels of schooling and as a widow raising their school fees is a challenge. My daughter is in college and her school fees are KES 54,000 per year. My two sons are in high school and theirs is KES 12,000 each. I am a farmer with two dairy cows that produce 12liters of milk every day. I sell this for KES 40 per liter earning me KES 480 per day. This money is not enough to cater for school fees and as we talk I have arrears amounting to KES 20,000. I have been receiving text messages reminding me to clear and this is my main source of stress. Receiving this money will help me clear the outstanding school fees arrears and this will finally give me peace."

"I plan to buy 3 goats, I would love to increase my livestock by buying few chicken, I believe I can get more income through resell of the animals. I don't have any school going children, so I have enough time to take care of them and also it they will keep me busy instead of just sitting down. I previously had some few cows that were doing fine untill the drought period came in, so I'm still motivated to start again."

"We are a family of 11, my husband works as water vendor in Mombasa, while I do farming and rearing of cows at home. All my children are in primary school, and two of them will be clearing end of this year. Paying school fees for them has been challenge, they are always in and out of school and this is affecting their school performance. Upon receiving the first transfer in June, I hope to take it to school to reduce the balances; especially for those clearing in December."

"My aim is to invest in my childrens education, I have three children and it is my desire to see them educated just to give them a better future. The plan is to buy about 30 kid goats and when grown I exchange them for three cows. This will be a back up plan especially when I am down financially and I need to pay their school fees. The next action is to revive my cake business, buy more stock and expand my clientele."

"Receiving this money will mean my last born adolescent son will have a house to live in, we have been wishing to build him a small structure because it has been uncomfortable sleeping in the same house with him. We find there is no privacy in living in the same house with him. I am planning on spending KES 20,000 to build him a semi-permanent house. For the remaining money, I will add one dairy cow to the ones I have, I depend on dairy farming and this is another chance to improve the productivity of the dairy farming by adding another cow."

"I depend fully on subsistence farming where I plant maize and sweet potatoes, the produce from my farm is not sufficient enough for commercial purposes although Whatever I harvest is for the family to consume. I have a son who is in form 3 at kiproroget secondary school, he has a school balance of KES 9,000. When I receive money from GiveDirectly I am planning to pay for his school fees. I have always desired to own a dairy cow, when I receive this money I will be glad to see my dream come true owning a cow. I have a budget of KES 35,000 go to buy a productive cow which will give me approximately 8litres of milk per day and will therefore sell at KES 37 per liter."

"I graduated from Olesos Technical college in the year 2021, with a diploma in civil engineering. I was unable to get my diploma certificate due to a school fees balance of KES 23,000. When I receive money from GiveDirectly I am planning to clear the arrears first, this will allow me to venture into my career journey of being an engineer. For the remaining amount, I am planning to buy a good dairy cow with KES 40,000 this will give me 10litres of milk per day. At the moment milk per liter is KES 37, in a day I will earn KES 370. This will be of great importance to me since at the moment I do not have a stable source of income, I depend fully on casual jobs which earn me a very little amount I can not sustain my life fully due to the high cost of living in the country."

"I have four children, three of whom have their own homes while the last born (daughter) still lives under my roof. The house we live in has only two rooms and one bed. Since it's not recommendable for one to sleep on the floor, I normally send her to sleep at her grandmother's place. It is in my plan that I add another room and a bed. I also would like to revive my livestock farming business. Which I stopped after they all perished. I just bought two chickens. When I get more funds, I will be purchasing a goat every month until I acquire six. I will then rear them so they may reproduce and multiply numbers. After which I will sell some so, I may purchase a cow. These funds will aid me in progressing financially."
