"The transfer from GiveDirectly came at the right time of need. This is because I needed to take my son to school yet I did not have enough resources. Upon receiving my transfer, l opted to pay school fees of KES 48,000 for my Son who was supposed to join a higher institution. I have eight children hence school fees have been my major challenge since I depend on a casual job which is not reliable. I had sold all my cows before to raise the fees yet it was not enough. I am so thankful for the transfer that came as a relief in my life."

"I am a mother of two children and a businesswoman specialising in buying and selling maize. Upon receiving my transfer, I used KES 25,000 in purchasing a dairy cow to cut the cost of buying milk daily. Secondly, I used KES 10,000 on paying school fees for my children and lastly I used the remaining amount on clothes and foodstuffs. I had a cow before but I was forced to sell it due to school fees responsibility. I am happy that GiveDirectly gave me the chance to replace it."

"I was very happy in the month of December last year when we had heavy rains. This was such a good time as we managed to grow cowpeas and reaped in time. I got about sixteen kilograms of the seeds and sold at 2400 KES while was still able to use the leaves as vegetable as well. It made my year and I still long for more seasons like that."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is the availability of adequate food for my family. This is because through the transfers I bought two bags of maize which so far will sustain my family for the next month. Earlier on, I was very stressed with too many demands and yet low daily income. This is because my wife used to call me daily before sunset just to give me a long list of household needs that I couldn't afford. Owning a dairy cow is another big difference. This is because after purchasing my piece of land two years ago my next plan was to buy a dairy cow but couldn't afford it due to my meager salary."

"I am a charcoal vendor and a mother of one. When I received my transfer, my husband and I opted to buy a cow. This is because I knew it would act as an asset for us in future. Thus I used KES 11500, I then bought a bed and a mattress at KES 10,000. In addition to that, I bought a door at KES 2500. Lastly, I bought foodstuffs and clothes with the remaining amount. I am thankful to have accomplished a lot in a short time unlike before when I was unable to due to financial constraints."

"The biggest difference that the transfer has brought into our lives is that with having bought another cow, we now have more milk than before. It is enough to supply to the school for payment of school fees and we are selling some. The money from the sales is enough to save and use in making other developments."

"The transfer has brought a very big difference in my life and that of my family. I am happy because I was able to buy a cow that I didn't have. The cow is about to calve and hence I will no longer incur the cost of buying milk. I will also be able to finally fulfill my dream of building another house for my family. We will thus be able to have enough space for all of us and a conducive place to sleep free from the kitchen smoke."

"Upon withdrawing the money, the first thing I did was to add more stock to my business where I sell household items such as utensils, basins, buckets etc. In the stock addition I used KES 25000.00 so as to make the business reliable. Thereafter, I bought a cow for KES 18000.00. The reason for buying the cow is to reduce the expenses of buying milk for my family because I am certain that the cow will be providing milk once it gives birth. In terms of education, I saved KES 10000.00 for my child who will be joining form one in May 2022. Since my business has not picked so well, I saw it prudent to save for him so that I do not strain when the time reaches."

"I normally work as a maize vendor for the past five years where I normally get KES 300 on market days. My husband also works as a casual tailor where he gets a meager income. From this, we get income to feed the family. So when I received the transfer, I spent KES 30,000 on a heifer. This will be a source of milk for my family soon. Initially, I used to rely on my parent's dairy cows but all were sold out. As a result, I have been buying a liter of milk per day at KES 60 for the past year. Secondly, I spent KES 8,000 on two bags of maize. So far we have consumed half a sack of maize and the remainder can sustain us for the next two months. Thirdly, I spent KES 8,000 on the latest clothing fashion best worn for special occasions. This is because earlier we used to afford only second-hand clothes."
