"The transfer has brought a very big difference in our lives as a family. This is because, with the cow that we bought, we no longer incur the cost of buying milk like before. The children are also happy because they have enough milk for their consumption. Other than that, we also managed to buy a few bags of maize that is going to push us for a while. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for supporting us."

"I depend on subsistence and dairy farming while my spouse has a motorcycle that he uses to offer taxi services in the neighborhood. Since we have only one child, we have been in a position to meet most of our basic needs on time since I usually earn KES 150 daily from the sale of milk after setting aside two liters for our consumption. With the transfer, I bought a dairy cow worth KES 29000 and used the remaining KES 25000 to purchase some utensils since the ones we had were few, clothes and food for the family. I am glad that we were able to do something tangible with the transfer that will enable us to enjoy GiveDirectly's good deeds for a long time."

"I have started living a happy life ever since I received my transfer. This is because I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow and I currently sleep in a warm house. I had lived in it for the past eight years without being able to buy the windows and it was always very cold at night, especially during the rainy seasons. I am glad that GiveDirectly enabled me to achieve this and buy a dairy cow. I am hopeful that the cow will calve soon and I will start earning money from the sale of surplus and use the income in meeting some of our needs."

"The difference in my daily life since I started receiving the cash transfer is that night we had neither money nor food in the house. My husband was contemplating on how to visit a nearby shop and get goods on credit. I also believe that in the next five years in the support program, I will own a few cows which will be used for ploughing our farm and leased to some of our neighbors’ will also be financially stable to educate all my children at least till they finish their High school education.  "

"It was around 9 am. When I heard a message notification from my phone. When I checked it out I felt so happy. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. My neighbors had received theirs at around 7 am. I was so worried since by 8 I had not received the money. When I got the message I was very excited because I thought I was left out. I withdrew the money the same day and went home to plan with my family. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow which we had talked about it with my spouse."

"I have always wanted to grow my farm especially considering that livestock back here in the village is highly marketable and valued. So when I got my funds from the program, I decided to buy a goat because the money I had could not afford an animal like a cow since they were way more costly and I lacked the funds for doing so. The goat cost me about KES 2,500. I planned on rearing and breeding the goat so that incase I had financial hardship then I could always sell and cater for my needs. I was left with about KES 500 where I used KES 405 and bought three packets of maize flour and used the remaining KES 95 and bought sardines. Food was my second priority because at the time I had completely ran out."

"We used KES 26000 to improve our house from that of a mud wall and earth floor to a cemented floor and plastered walls. Our home is now more permanent and more comfortable for us as a family. For a long time I had had the desire to put up a better structure but the kind of casual work that we engaged in would not allow us to improve the one that we had yet. We are so happy and very grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling us do this with the transfers that we received. We used another KES 10000 to buy a dairy cow. It is an investment that is so viable in my area at the moment and is meant to help us meet other emerging needs in future. We also got to pay school fees balances for one of my children amounting to KES 5000 while the remaining amount was used to buy food for family."

"The transfer has brought a very big difference in our daily lives as a family. My wife now has a source of income through the sale of milk from the cow that we bought. She usually sells 4 liters of milk in the morning and the money that she gets, she uses on the purchase of the small household items such as sugar, soap, etc. She has thus helped me a lot in reducing the budget costs that I use to incur. As a result of this, my shop business has grown since I have managed to reinvest most of the profit into the business. We are thus grateful to GiveDirectly for supporting us."

"The biggest difference in my life is that I am currently owning dairy cows a venture that I had desired to start for a long time. Previously, I had only a few goats that I was keeping. In addition, I was able to clear the debt at our nearby food store where I had been taking food on credit. This had increased the understanding and trust between me and the shopkeeper."
