Paris
received a $475 initial payment.
"I used KES 16000 to buy a cow and used another 11000 to buy a bed and mattress. I used another KES 10000 to stock my shop which was almost crumbling due to lack of commodities to sell and the remaining amount was used to start a poultry keeping business. I made all these investments so as to be able to increase the amount of income and assets that can help our family financially and also support my husband who works as a traditional herbalist. We can confidently say that we are a step towards being financially independent and that our three children will no longer lack basic commodities and we will be in a position to pay their school fees in time too."

Julius
received a $475 initial payment.
"The transfer has brought a very big difference in my life and that of my family. This is because we were able to achieve our dream of having a cow of our own. The cow is yet to valve but when it does, we will be able to have our source of milk and we will no longer have to rely on home to supply us with some. Other than that, we have enough to eat since we managed to buy three bags of maize with part of the transfer. The children are also happy because they have new clothes to wear. We are thus grateful to GiveDirectly for me everything."

Charles
received a $475 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to build a decent house for my family. Which I was unable to build before due to financial constraints. Secondly, I own a dairy cow in which I am hopeful that I would be able to sell its proceeds in future. I have been able to accomplish my dreams in a short period hence I am grateful to the organization for putting smiles on our faces and for transforming our living standards amazingly"

Daizy
received a $475 initial payment.
"Upon receiving my transfer I was full of happiness and optimistic about tomorrow. This is because I had always wanted to construct a decent house in the village but I was unable due to financial constraints. Thus I saw this as a golden opportunity for me to build a house. I am a casual labourer and a mother of four, what I earn is nearly enough to cater for the basic needs of my family. Therefore I used KES 30,000 to build a house, I then bought a dairy cow for KES 17,000 so has to cut down on the cost of buying milk daily. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on medication and foodstuffs. I am so happy for the support that lifted my living standard to a higher level in society."

Linah
received a $475 initial payment.
"It was almost 8 am and I had just finished milking the cow when I heard my phone which I had left in the house ringing. I was with my husband at the cowshed. I wondered why my phone had rung and hence I decided to go and check what it was all about. I saw that I had a new message and on opening it, I was surprised when I found out that I had received KES 55000 that GiveDirectly had promised us in my mobile money account. I was so happy and I immediately went back to the cowshed to share the good news with my husband as I showed him the SMS. He was so happy and we thanked God because we now knew that we were going to fulfill the plans that we had already made."

Daisy
received a $475 second payment.
"I used the money to buy a lactating cow and a heifer worth Kes 50000 and used the remaining amount to pay school fees for my son who is in secondary school. I am a mother of six and all my children look up to me to meet their needs including payment of school fees since their father fell sick sometime back and has not been in a position to work and help me oit. Life has not been easy since I entirely depend on casual work to help raise money for such needs. I am however grateful that GiveDirectly came in handy and helped me out. I look forward to seeing my children have a smooth time back in school."

John
received a $459 second payment.
"My new goal is to be able to expand my business of livestock selling and to be able to buy an improved dairy cow that will see us produce enough milk that we can consume some and sell surplus to meet other family's expenses. Right now we have just enough to feed the family and we remain with none to sell. I am also a livestock selling business man and I am grateful that the business was booster by GiveDirectly transfers. I even look forward to having it improve the more to earn us income and make our living standards better than it has always been. This I plan to do with the profits that I will get from the business that I currently run."

Roseline
received a $475 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is the purchase of my dairy cow. This has led to the availability of adequate milk for feeding my family. My kids are now very grateful to GiveDirectly for the dairy cow because they can drink milk unlike before when they seldom drank.
Additionally, I am also grateful to GiveDirectly for the decent clothing which I bought for my family. Therefore there's no more discrimination based on clothing."
